What is Wanelo - Shopping & Fashion?

Wanelo stands for “Want, Need, Love,” and is a social shopping app that’s part Pinterest and part retail app. Users are able to save looks that they like as well buy items directly through the app.

The Wanelo app is rated for users ages 12 years and older, is free to download and use and does contain in-app purchases via the shopping experience.  This app can be downloaded from the App Store and the Google Play Store.

As the entire app is based around discovering brands and new styles, when users tap on an item they like and subsequently wish to purchase, they’re taken to a third party retail site.

Users register for Wanelo by entering either an email address or linking their Facebook account. And much like social media, users browse the Wanelo app and have the option to follow stores with styles they like, like items of interest, and comment on other member or friends posts.

Like Pinterest, Wanelo users can save articles of interest to create their own “collection,” gathering style ideas or merely saving items they wish to purchase in the future, all in one place.

Is Wanelo - Shopping & Fashion safe for my kids?

As Wanelo is a shopping app, it encourages rampant consumerism, so parents will want to discuss finances and spending expectations with their children before allowing them to use the app.

However, the app can be a great way for budding fashionistas to put together style boards and play around with ideas without actually purchasing everything on their boards.

One of the reasons why the Wanelo app is popular with teens is because of the prices offered through merchants. Truth be told, the site is full of knockoffs, many of which ship directly from China.

And while the prices are incredibly low compared to buying the same brand from a retailer in the US, Wanelo users can still pay upwards of $50 (and more) for a pair of knock-off sneakers.

Quality is an issue with many of the products offered through the Wanelo app, as are work conditions in the factories where they’re produced are.

Users familiar with the Wish app or AliExpress will know that reviews and sizing tables are incredibly important when ordering through Wanelo, as many of the items on the site arrive looking completely different from the pictures on the website and sizing is always an issue.

Users who end up with the wrong item will likely just cut their losses as shipping back to Asia will likely prove to be cost prohibitive.

And while many shoppers will use the Wanelo app to save money, they not only get what they pay for, but they may find themselves wishing they had just opted for the real thing if there is a product or sizing mix-up.

In reality, teens’ best bets are to surf the Wanelo app for style suggestions and use Pinterest boards to put together clothing capsules with items from reputable retailers.  This app is safe for teens, but consumers can likely find a more reputable app.
