What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a social media app that allows users to share advice, inspiration, and ideas related to all parts of life, including DIY projects, potential haircuts, fitness workouts, and more.
It is available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store. This app does not feature any in-app purchases but does feature advertisements. It is rated for teen users.
Once the app is downloaded, users can create an account that contains information related to themselves and their personal interests.
From there, they can begin browsing through their homepage and discover ‘pins’ related to whatever subjects they had previously chosen.
If you would like to save a pin, simply hold down your finger on whatever you would like to save and select the little “pin” button. This will prompt you to save the item to one of your boards.
If you would like to send a pin to someone else, follow the same instructions, but choose the button located to the right of the “pin”. This will allow you to directly send the item to your friends on Pinterest or send it through a third-party application, such as WhatsApp.
To view your profile, your boards, and the items that you have saved, simply select the “Saved” button located in the bottom right corner of the app. This will allow you to browse through all of your information and followers.
Although the app has been downloaded over 5 million times and has almost a 5-star review, some users have complained that recent updates have made Pinterest less user-friendly.
Is Pinterest safe for my kids?
Pinterest is safe for teens but does not have any sort of age verification in place.
There are currently very few regulations put into place to monitor what items are uploaded to Pinterest and whether or not these items contain mature themes or content.
Because of this, users may very easily come into contact with suggestive or sexual themes that sometimes contain mild nudity.
Many parents may not be comfortable with this, which is why it is important to keep an eye on what your child is saving to their account.
It is important to keep in mind that Pinterest is a form of social media, and children should be limited in regards to the amount of time that they can spend scrolling through the app.
If you are concerned that your child may develop a tech addiction, make sure to monitor how much time they are spending on Pinterest, and discuss with them the dangers of using technology too often.
Finally, parents will be happy to know that Pinterest does not offer in-app purchases, thus minimizing the risk of your child buying additional features without your consent.
