What is Slide – 3D GIF Camera?

Slide is an app that helps users create highly shareable GIFs with their iPhone with a quick and easy three-step process.

Rated for users of all ages, Slide is available to download in the App Store for $1.99 and does not include additional in-app purchases or advertisements.

Those users familiar with Boomerang will appreciate the more sophisticated nuances of the Slide app. Slide uses a simple three-step process to create high quality and highly shareable GIFs.

The app itself is intuitive and straightforward to use, opening directly to the screen users will use to capture their image. Users will need to allow the Slide app permission to access their device’s camera to use the app.

Once the image capture screen is open, users pinpoint and frame the image or object they wish to capture and tap the screen to begin. After initiating the image capture, users slide their phone to the left or right. Tap again on the target of the GIF and Slide creates a 3D animated GIF centered around your focal point.

How does the Slide app make GIFs in 3D? The side slide motion captures additional detail to the side of the item that is made the focal point, making it seem as though it’s coming out of the image in full detail.

It’s important to note that users must use a smooth horizontal motion to capture their image correctly.

Users who accidentally tap the wrong area to make the focal point, or wish to change the focus of a previous capture have the option to edit their GIF. To change a focal point, users tap the Edit option and select a new area of their capture to highlight or play around to create unique and highly shareable effects.

Pro tip: To accurately capture your object, begin with it just off center in the screen’s frame, allowing room for your slide motion capture.

Much like a new camera, the Slide app takes practice to achieve beautiful results. Good lighting is a must, as is a steady hand and a knack for photo composition. Users may experience a learning curve when they first begin composing their 3D looping GIFs.

Is Slide – 3D GIF Camera safe for my kids?

Another item of note is that the Slide app will only work with iPhone 5s and later, that feature high-fps cameras.

Parents don’t have much to worry about the Slide app, as it’s a fun tool for budding photographers and videographers. This app is safe for kids.

The GIFs are meant to be shared on social media platforms, so a reminder about what’s appropriate and what’s inappropriate to share on social media might be a good idea before children get started.

As with all photographs meant for social media distribution, children should be sure not to include identifying details in their images.

One last note if children venture off of the app to the Slide developer’s website, parents should know that there is profanity used on the site that is not appropriate for young children (in the FAQ section).
