What is Signal Private Messenger?

Signal is an encrypted communications app for people looking for an inexpensive way to keep in touch with friends in other countries.

It supports simple, straightforward, and secure messaging in voice, video, or text from a tablet or mobile device without being attached to a social media platform.

In order to use Signal's encrypted messaging features, both parties must be signed up, connected to the internet, and running the app. Users register with a personal phone number and then can send photos, videos, messages, make calls, or video chat.

Signal also incorporates features for independently verifying that the person they're talking to is who they say they are.

The app will also notify users if the encryption key on the other end of the channel has changed, which may indicate a third party has compromised their privacy.

Android users can replace their default text message handling application with Signal, which can communicate either securely or in plain text depending on whether or not the recipient mobile number is a Signal user.

Is Signal Private Messenger safe for my kids?

Signal is safe for kids, but not designed for them. Encrypted messaging is something kids usually aren’t concerned about, so they're probably better off using a more kid friendly messaging app.
