When Face Swap Live hit the app market, users everywhere took to social media to share both still face swap photos, as well as live video. Face Swap Live is a fun, and sometimes creepy, app that uses facial mapping/recognition technology to interchange faces in photos and videos.
Using facial indicators or mapping points, such as eyebrows, nose, mouth, and eyes, Face Swap Live allows users to swap faces with a friend or family member, or use the app’s photo library for celebrity and character faces to swap with.
When users open the app, they’ll be prompted for permissions for the app to use the device’s camera and microphone, after which, they’ll see a camera view screen, which instructs them to “move 2 faces into view.”
At the bottom of the screen, menu options include a gallery (of photos and videos made with the app), a camera option (for still photos), a video option (for live video recordings), faces (a gallery of celebrity and character face options to choose from), or swap.
When in camera mode, users can switch the camera angle to either forward facing or selfie mode. From there, users can opt to tweak the app’s settings, adjusting the photo background (auto/black/white), photo sizing (fit or fill screen), a help menu, a photo sharing option, in addition to custom face masking options (choose to swap entire face, just the nose, mouth or eyes).
The Face Swap Live app allows users to perform an internet search to pull a specific celebrity or character face, if not already included in the photo library, but parents should know that the search bar/browser does not take users out to a third party platform. When users search for a specific keyword or name, results are returned in the form of available images (not websites or links).
When a user finds the image they wish to swap, they should be sure to tap the heart symbol and favorite the face to keep in a personal gallery of favorite faces (or else they’ll need to perform another search to find the image at a future date).
At times, users may encounter a message stating that a face is not detected, especially when attempting to face swap with animals. When the app does not recognize a face in an image, users can opt to manually map the face in the photo, dragging specific mapping points with their finger, until they achieve the desire shape and feature locations.
Is Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys safe for my kids?
Users must be 13 years of age or older to download the Face Swap Live app, but the app itself is rated for users 12 years of age and older by the App Store, and for users of all ages by the Google Play Store.
Using a simple interface, Face Swap Live is easy enough for young children to navigate. This app can be safe for kids, but use of this app should be done with adult supervision.
In all, Face Swap Live is a fun and safe interactive app for users of all ages. The only area of concern comes in the form of the Face Swap Live community gallery, in which users can opt to share their face swaps with the community, and users can favorite those images by tapping on the heart icon.
The gallery could possibly include inappropriate or scary images (for example, using a zombie face masking feature) that may not be ideal for younger children.
