What is Dunk Shot?

Dunk Shot is a highly addictive basketball shooting app that keeps players coming back in an effort to perfect their shot and beat their personal best scores. Free to download and play, Dunk Shot does feature ads and in-app purchases, and is rated for users ages four years and older.

In-app purchases range from $0.99 to $1.99. Players are able to collect in game currency, which are awarded through successive gameplay, but purchasing star packages is a much quicker return.

Those players opting to play the Dunk Shot app for free, without forking over money for additional in-app purchases, will see an ad banner prominently displayed across the bottom of their screens. Advertisements also pop up on the screen immediately after a player loses a round, with another thumbnail ad appearing towards the top of the screen.

High scoring players who miss a basket will receive a timed offer to watch a video ad in order to resume their game afterwards or they can opt to hit “No Thanks” to exit the game. Players who opt out of watching a video ad for continued game play are yet again bombarded with an offer in exchange for watching a video advertisement.

When Dunk Shot begins, players swipe to move the slingshot-type shooter to align their shot, and then tap to release the ball.

Players receive points for each shot made, with additional points being awarded for bank shots, or bouncing the ball off of the side of the screen to make the shot. Each net is placed higher on the screen from the last, essentially having players make basketball shots to ascend higher and higher.

Once players make a successive number of shots, their ball will alight and trail flames, with point values for each additional shot accruing by one, until the fire goes out. As players continue in the game, shots get increasingly difficult and the game mixes in moving basketball hoops with stationary ones.

Dunk Shot is a simple game that features no background music. The app, however, does have sound effects for successful shots, shot streaks and star collection.

Players can opt to compete in challenge mode in which they’re served a game level to complete and are awarded a prize upon completion. Challenges however, can only be played at intervals, with countdown clocks showing when a player’s next available challenge is set to unlock.

Is Dunk Shot safe for my kids?

Parents should be aware that the Dunk Shot app is the ultimate time-suck or time-killing app. With an interface that is almost as simple as Pong, players swipe and tap to make basketball shots into ascending hoops.

In-app purchases add a bit of variety to an otherwise simplistic game, allowing players to purchase different basketballs to vary their shot progression.

Parents’ main concerns with the Dunk Shot app will be in the high volume of advertisements offered in the app and the ability for players to make in-app purchases.

This app is safe for kids but setting password-protected purchases and discussing spending expectations can easily alleviate any concerns with the Dunk Shot app.
