What is VICE Media?

The Vice Media app is a media and news app that works in conjunction with other Vice Media Publications. Vice Media is a Montreal based publication that was founded to cover music, drug culture, and trends not covered by traditional media.

The Vice Media app is available for free download on both iOS and Android devices. It is rated for users 17 years of age and older and features in-app advertisements. This app does not offer any in-app purchases.

Once downloaded, users are free to explore and read any articles featured in the app. After a quick tutorial, the app is pretty simple and self-explanatory.  There is no need or option to create an account through the app, users are able to utilize the app as much as they’d like.

The app is broken into three sections: read, watch, and explore. The ‘read’ tab feature the day’s top ten must read articles that cover a variety of topics for any given day. This tab also features a latest section with the latest news and articles published by Vice Media.

The ‘watch’ tab has three of its own tabs. Featured videos and playlists, the latest or newest, and a tab featuring Vice’s own produced shows. The ‘explore’ tab allows users to search for news by topic or through the Vice Network. The Vice Network is a series of channels created by Vice Media that are really just topics broken up by different headings and are associated with Vice series.

The Vice Media app has not received the best reviews from users.  Many complain about the app being buggy, crashing while reading articles or even when just trying to open the app. Many have reported that the app, it’s articles, images, and embedded links are slow to load leaving them with a frustrating experience.

Users also complain about the lack of a search bar and are left to explore only with the limited topic boxes provided.

Is VICE Media safe for my kids?

The Vice Media app is not safe for children under the age of 17.

This app features a great deal of news, content, and opinions that are not appropriate for children and often news that is not featured in mainstream media. And that’s the point. Vice Media was created to cover controversial and mature topics and as such violence, sex, drugs, politics, and more.

This is an app that is not made for children. There are no restrictions or parental controls available in the app and while there are no in-app purchases, advertisements in the app will take users to third party sites.

Because there is no need to create an account, there is no age verification for this app, nor is there any way to block or report content while in the app.
