What is Toca Life: Hospital?
The third installment in the wildly successful, interactive and educational Toca Life series of apps is Toca Life: Hospital. Toca Boca implements all of the things children may encounter in a hospital setting into five floors, giving children an idea of what hospitals are and how they function through imaginative play.
As with the other Toca Life apps, Hospital is wholly interactive giving children the opportunity to explore at will. Toca Life: Hospital is available to download for a one-time purchase of $2.99, and does not feature any advertisements or additional in-app purchases.
Toca Life: Hospital features five hospital floors for kids to explore: Basement/Garage, Entrance/ER, Treatment, Family Care and General Care and includes a hospice wing.
The basement level of Toca Life: Hospital features a garage where players can explore a parked ambulance, laundry chute, break/locker room, janitor closet, and a secret lab. Once in the secret lab, kids can play around with potions and check out the strange sloth-alligator-like creature there.
In the lobby level, kids can check out the waiting room, check in with a receptionist and take a ticket, get a drink from the water cooler, and check out the food offerings in the cafeteria. The cafeteria features both indoor and outdoor patio seating, which opens into a nice greenspace.
Things get a little strange in the treatment room, which features an operating room with a cabinet of happy organs (the organs have faces on them), which can be dragged and dropped onto/into a patient on the surgical table.
Is Toca Life: Hospital safe for my kids?
Parents should know that Toca Life: Hospital is a fully immersive and completely interactive app and is safe for kids.
Perhaps one of the best features of Toca Life: Hospital is that there are absolutely no in-app purchases or advertisements, so parents are reassured that their children will not be bombarded with ads or tempted to make purchases as they play.
Rated for children as young as 3 years of age, adults and older kids will also enjoy exploring all of the interactive features the Toca characters are able to do and explore within the hospital.
From the developer:
“The farewell room in Toca Life: Hospital gives loved ones a chance to say goodbye in a peaceful setting.”
It’s important to note that adults may be the only people to pick up on this wing or room as it’s simply a room of windows with a comfortable bed with plants, candles, and sheer curtains. Parents may or may not wish to use this as an opportunity to have a conversation about death; children will likely just see this as a cushy hospital room.
As with the other Toca Life apps, Toca Life: Hospital offers plenty of opportunities for children to explore and familiarize themselves with a hospital environment.
They can check out the maternity ward and see mothers with new babies, visit other patients in general care, and even take a look at all of the equipment an ambulance holds.
The best part about Toca Life: Hospital is that there are no time limits or objectives, just fun exploration at a child’s own pace. This app is safe for kids and parents need not worry about their children being bombarded with advertisements or potential in-app purchases.
