What is SteamWorld Heist?

SteamWorld Heist is a fun 2D strategy-based game featuring robots fighting against evil in space.

Rated for players ages 9 years of age and older, SteamWorld Heist is only available for iOS devices, and can be purchased for $9.99 in the App Store. SteamWorld Heist does not feature any in-app advertisements or purchases.

Featuring Wild West-style robots engaging in intergalactic shootouts, SteamWorld Heist players will enjoy strategizing with this 2D gaming app. Players are tasked with assembling a crew of robots to defeat the evil lurking throughout the galaxy, after Earth and humankind have been destroyed.

When users first download and open SteamWorld Heist, they're greeted with a cutscene that lays the foundation for the game. Created to mimic an old-time war propaganda-style cartoon, SteamWorld Heist lets players know that after Earth's destruction, only steam-powered robots remain, cruising the outer reaches of space.

Along the way, the good robots encounter "Space Jerks" and "Royalists" with nefarious intentions and players are tasked with putting together a team of Cowbots to destroy the evildoers they encounter.

Once players are on the home screen, they're given three main menu options: Start, Options or Vault.

To begin playing, users select Start and then choose their difficulty level from the following options: Casual, Regular, Experienced, Veteran or Elite. The Casual setting is good for those players who are more interested in the game story or are not used to turn-based strategy games.

The Regular difficulty setting is presented as best for those players who "want a lighter challenge, this setting allows you to go in with guns blazing."

Players selecting the Experienced level will find themselves playing the game at a slightly challenging level, not too difficult, not too easy.

Veteran and Elite players will find themselves playing a more difficult game, presenting increasing challenges at each turn.

With a difficulty level selected, players are then presented with a cutscene to set up their gameplay. For example:

Piper Faraday, notorious smuggler and occasional pirate, is having a rough time. A brutal gang of thugs, called Scrappers, are spreading across her turf in the Outskirts. Stealing everything in sight, they have even been known to kidnap the locals. Their presence could draw unwanted attention from the Royal Space Force. In short: They are bad for business.

Low on water, Piper and her mates have boarded a Scrapper ship, aiming to relieve them of their ill-gotten cargo. And of course, it all went according to plan…

After the cutscene setup, players are dropped into their mission. As they play, blinking arrows and text boxes provide instructions for navigating through obstacles and battling enemy robots. Players navigate throughout the SteamWorld Heist game with simple taps on their screens.

Is SteamWorld Heist safe for my kids?

With beautifully rich 2D graphics and scenery, and a game backstory appealing to those players who love a vintage feel, SteamWorld Heist is a fun, if not challenging, gaming app to play.

Parents only concern with the app may be the violent nature of the game, in which players use their Cowbot teams, each with a unique weapon skill, to destroy (kill) enemy and evil robots.

Apart from the violent aspect of the game, SteamWorld Heist provides just enough of a storyline, mixed with rich and detailed graphics, and challenge to keep players of all ages engaged.  This app is safe for older kids.
