What is Sketchbook®?

The SketchBook – Draw & Paint app is a digital art studio with a smart, non-invasive interface. Users can sketch with pencils, pens, markers, or paint brushes, but the menu will stay hidden until it is time to switch, so artists using the app are not distracted from their work.

The app includes a variety of professional level features common in most art studio platforms, such as a number of brushes and sketching tools, rulers for precise lines, zooming and cropping features, and more.

Artists also have the ability to scan images sketched on paper to import into the app, so they can add color and detail with SketchBook’s collection of tools. Also available is the ability for artists to export images in most of the important file formats.

SketchBook is a platform of professional quality, and it used to charge a subscription price for that quality, but the developer, Autodesk, has made the full featured version available free to everyone.

The app operates on both iOS and Android devices, and can be found in the iTunes app store or the Google Play store. For proof of the quality of SketchBook, one needs only to look at the review section.

The app scores an average of 4.8 out of 5 stars in the iTunes review section, with many artists praising the large toolkit and the easy to operate interface that provides a great user experience.

Is Sketchbook® safe for my kids?

SketchBook is a safe app for artists of all ages. There is little beyond its function as an art studio, so parents don't need to be concerned about messaging features, social media platforms, or otherwise inappropriate or mature content.

It should be noted that SketchBook is designed for professional level work, but with its clean and simple interface, the app is accessible to anyone with a hobby or passion for drawing.

It is not intimidating, like some art platforms, with vast and complex menus that may ward off younger artists who do not yet understand how to use those functions, but it also includes every tool an illustrator might need.

This is a great benefit for young artists, as they can learn the features and grow into using more and more of them without being overwhelmed from the start, allowing them to follow and develop their passion for art and creativity.

The app is also free to use, without in-app purchases that have a chance of resulting in unexpected purchases. SketchBook – Draw & Paint truly remains a kid-friendly app while offering a professional suite of tools and functions.
