What is RYSE UP?

RYSE Up is an app that provides an interactive media platform for creatives of all types to connect and collaborate. The RYSE Up app aims to ‘level the playing field’ when it comes to emerging artists, allowing creatives to connect with influential people in their business, no matter where they are in the world.

RYSE UP is free to download and use and is rated for users 12 years of age and older. However terms of service dictate that users must be a minimum of 13 years of age or older to create a public profile on the platform.

It’s important to note that RYSE Up advertises their app as a place for emerging talent to showcase their talent, especially through uploading media.

However, many user complaints state that the platform does not support artists uploading media clips to their profiles. It appears that video uploads only come into play when artists are responding for specific calls put out by producers, established artists, and other industry insiders.

The RYSE Up platform supports singers, producers, musicians, rappers, comedians, dancers, DJs, designers, and other types of creatives in the entertainment industry.

Where the RYSE Up app and platform seems to shine is when industry veterans and established artists put out open calls for artists. When an open search is posted, undiscovered artists/talent submit a video showcasing their skills.

Fans vote for their favorite artists, and then a match is made between the emerging talent and the open call poster.  From here, a collaborative project can be made and released on the platform.

Is RYSE UP safe for my kids?

Parents should be aware that the RYSE Up app is designed to connect up and coming talent with influential and successful people in their industry. As such, children creating profiles on RYSE Up will be doing so publicly.

The developers describe RYSE Up as an “artistic talent and programming development service,” so parents should be aware that children using this will have public profiles and will be connecting with strangers (other creatives, producers, industry insiders) on a regular basis.

Similar to many social media platforms, RYSE Up requires users to be a minimum of 13 years of age to create a profile.

Parents allowing their children to use the RYSE Up app should be aware of the information the app collects from its users, as it may be more than they would like a third party to have about their children.

Some highlights of the information RYSE Up collects from its users is as follows:

  • Information by which you may be personally identified, such as name, postal address, email address, telephone number, third-party login information, or payment method information ("personal information").
  • Information about your internet connection, the equipment you use to access our Service and usage details.
  • Information about your device, such as the type and model, manufacturer, operating system (e.g. iOS or Android), carrier name, IP address, mobile browser, and identifiers assigned to your device, such as its iOS Identifier for Advertising (IDFA), Android Advertising ID, or unique device identifier (a number uniquely allocated to your device by your device manufacturer).
  • Log information, including the app or website visited, the time and your time zone, network connection type (e.g., WiFi, cellular), and cookie information.
  • Geo-location of your device (using GPS or other geo-location data), when location services have been enabled for the Mobile App or browser accessing our Service.

The biggest point of concern for parents with the RYSE Up app comes in the form of their child having a public profile on the platform.

However, many talented children waiting to be discovered, have public personas which can be safe for teens with parent monitoring.
