What is Quora?

Quora is a popular question and answer social media platform.

The Quora app is rated for teen users and can be found in both the App Store and the Google Play Store. This app features advertisements.

Quora makes it easy for members to ask questions, find answers, and provide answers to questions while on-the-go. Push notifications notify users of updates to threads they’re following, so they don’t miss out on the conversation and knowledge-sharing.

Users can use the search button in the top right corner to directly look for a specific topic, or can scroll through their home feed to review what has been posted since their last visit. User answers are voted up or down by other users and Quora uses those votes to filter responses to only show the best answers.

Quora sits apart from other similar platforms because it has attracted members who are leaders in their field, who provide well thought-out and researched or experience-based answers to questions.

The platform allows users to contribute to thoughtful discussions about subjects in their areas of expertise. This is what attracts people to the platform, it a community of learning and engaging in a virtual symposium.

Members who are able to weed through the fluff will still find it to be helpful and thought-provoking. Users can use the search button in the top right corner to directly look for a specific topic, or can scroll through their home feed to review what has been posted since their last visit.

Is Quora safe for my kids?

Quora is rated for teens ages 13 and older, but can also be safe for kids with adult supervision. Quora has moderators, who liberally remove inappropriate content, answers and users.

Children can come across adult and mature content, in addition to negative religious views and heavily skewed or slanted political content. There is a high volume of “popularity” seekers who view the number of answer views and upvotes serve as a type of status symbol within the community.

Parents may want to inform their children that upvotes do not necessarily imply accuracy and it is possible for an entirely incorrect answer to be shown because of a high volume of upvotes. Those users following subject area experts, however, should not encounter such issues.

Quora can be a fun app to check out discussions related to topics of interest, but information found on the site should be weighed for accuracy.
