What is Quidd: Digital Collectibles?
Quidd is a virtual trading and collecting app where users can acquire stickers related to their favorite pop culture shows, movies, and music.
The Quidd app is rated for teen users. This app is available to download from both the App Store and the Google Play Store. Quidd is free to download and offers in-app purchases but no advertisements.
When users first download the Quidd app, they’ll be prompted to create an account and must first input their date of birth for a quick verification process.
Quidd then prompts users to input their email address for additional verification and are then instructed to check a box to agree to the app’s terms and conditions before proceeding. These steps also feature an optional box directly below the terms and conditions for users to decide to receive marketing emails.
Once users agree to terms and conditions, a pop-up appears on the screen announcing that, “People who turn on push notifications get WAAYYY more for FREE.”
When users sign into the Quidd app, the interface functions similar to standard social media platforms with a feed comprised of user creations from across the globe.
Because Quidd is a social app, users have several options to locate friends on the platform.
- Users can find friends by:
- Sharing their profile on Facebook, letting friends know that they’re on the platform
- Allow Quidd to access their contacts to search for those with accounts
- Share a custom link via text, email, or their preferred social media platform
- By using the search feature to input friend names
Under user profile options they will find an option to adjust Quidd app features under the Settings menu. Once in, users have a range of options to select from, including adding the Quidd keyboard to one’s device, to managing push notifications and blocked users.
The Tips option gives answers to commonly asked questions about the Quidd app and is a great place to start.
Is Quidd: Digital Collectibles safe for my kids?
Parents should know that Quidd is a pay to play model, as more serious users will need to spend money to acquire virtual cards for their growing collections. This app is safe for teens with parental supervision.
The thing about Quidd is that unlike real-world card collecting users have no tangible benefit from the app and those items that they’re paying to acquire don’t exist in the real world.
Parents should know that the Quidd app can be used for free and that there is a lot of free content available through the app in addition to passive coin earnings, but serious collectors will need to spend money to acquire sought after or rare stickers.
In-app purchases are typically direct coin or card packages and range in price from $0.99 to $9.99 to purchase.
Parents should be aware that Quidd gives users the option of connecting their account with Facebook. When users connect their Facebook account, they’re rewarded with 10,000 coins, the currency of the Quid app.
Like Facebook, Quidd users create profiles and can like and comment on other user posts, and vice versa
The Golden Rules section under Quidd’s Tips menu provides general rules of conduct while on the social platform.
To keep the app a safe, fun platform for all users, Quidd gives users the opportunity to unfriend, report, or block users. Users can later review their blocked list and may unblock selected users at any time.
Quidd recommends using this option, “if a potential trade partner becomes difficult or offensive...Blocking another user prevents that user from chatting or trading with you.”
In addition to reporting users violating the Quidd community rules, users may also report offensive comments posted in threads.
Per the developer, “How did that get through?” Quidd works hard to prevent foul language, bullying, and hate speech from its comments stream, but we can’t do it without you. If stuff slips through, we need your help.
In all, Quidd can be a fun, beginner social media experience with fun virtual stickers being the common theme. As with any social media platform, users may encounter profanity and mature references in the comments, but again, Quidd offers users the ability to report and block offensive users.
As long as parents address spending expectations at the outset, and monitor their child’s activity while on the platform, Quidd is a relatively harmless app for them to have.
