What is Privacy Messenger-SMS Call app?

The Privacy Messenger app by Melons Chat Team is a third party messenger that allows users to send encrypted texts.

The Privacy Messenger is only available for Android devices, is rated for users of all ages, and contains in-app purchases and advertisements.

The Privacy Messenger app replaces the native messaging app on Android devices and is marketed as an all-in-one messenger. The Privacy Messenger app provides users with the ability to send and receive encrypted messages, ensuring that their conversations remain secure and private.

While the Privacy Messenger app touts that the app blocks screenshots from being taken, it’s important to note that this only includes screenshots taken from the user’s device, not contacts on the other end of text conversations. Essentially, the screenshot block is worthless.

While the Privacy Messenger app features backup and restore capabilities, users report that the function pertains only to plain text and does not feature Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) backup and restore options.

However, one of the most praised features, apart from messaging encryption, is the Privacy Messenger app’s ability to block unwanted text messages and phone calls.

While similar apps often filter blocked calls and messages to a separate box, which can be viewed by the user, the Privacy Messenger app does not feature a file for users to scan blocked data and calls.

One major missing facet of the Privacy Messenger app is the video capability, users are unable to send and receive videos through the app.

Those users who send a significant volume of video clips through their messaging app will not find the Privacy Messenger app a viable option. Some users have requested that a video option be added to the app, but developers have declined.

Other users complaints about the Privacy Messenger app pertain to the app being buggy and not consistently responsive. Many users report messages not being marked as read after reading, as well as sound notifications coming through despite having that option muted within the app.

And while the Privacy Messenger app offers a search function for users to quickly and easily navigate to select conversations, users report that the function is often unreliable and sometimes crashes the app when attempted to use.

While the Privacy Messenger app is offered free of charge, users report heavy ad placement throughout the messaging app, often to the point of distraction.

Users do however, have the option to pay a one-time charge of $4.99 to upgrade to the Privacy Messenger PRO version of the app, which removes ads from the interface.

Is Privacy Messenger-SMS Call app safe for my kids?

Parents need to be aware that the Privacy Messenger app offers a private message box, in addition to encrypted messaging. Users can move conversations to a secure, private messaging area that requires a PIN to access.

Users also have the ability to hide the private box icon from their screen, making it difficult for parents to properly monitor their child’s phone.

Parents who discover the generic-looking Privacy Messenger app icon on their child’s phone should probe the reasons why their kid feels the need to keep their text message conversations private.

This app is not appropriate for kids, any time a user may be seeking out a private and encrypted messaging system, it may be because they have something to hide.  Parents are better off not allowing their child to download this app.
