What is PrankDial - #1 Prank Call App?

PrankDial  is an app that allows users to send pre-recorded prank calls without giving up their identity.

This app is rated for teens and can be found in both the App Store and the Google Play Store. PrankDial also offers in-app purchases.

Originally a web-based service, the developer created the PrankDial app to transition the service over for increasingly popular mobile use.

Users simply scroll through a list of pre-recorded prank calls, with titles such as “Secret Crush” or “Radio Giveaway”, and listen to a recording sample by hitting the associated play symbol to the right of the title.

Each prank call is rated by other users, showing the number of users who gave that call a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Once selected, users enter the phone number of the person they wish to send the call to and the app takes care of the rest.

PrankDial is consumer-focused, offering a number of additional app options for those users who purchase token packages. One token is good for one prank call, and the smallest package offered is $5.95 for 25 tokens.

The largest package offered is a whopping 300 tokens for $31.95. Once a token package is purchased, additional options are unlocked, including the ability to view one’s call history, no charge if a call goes unanswered, no ads at the end of calls, the ability to send calls after 10 p.m., the ability to listen to calls live, the ability to make international prank calls, as well as access to “Premium Prank” call choices.

PrankDial token purchases are non-refundable, and all sales are final, so users should take that into consideration before purchasing token packages. It’s also important to note that many consumer complaints are for charges being incurred without receipt of tokens.

Once tokens are purchased, users can make as many calls as they’d like, as long as they follow the app’s terms of service. PrankDial touts itself as the “World’s number one prank calling service,” and emphasizes the fact that the app is meant to be light-hearted and humorous. As such, the app limits the number of times a user can call a particular number per hour, as well as each day.

Is PrankDial - #1 Prank Call App safe for my kids?

PrankDial is not safe for kids because while many of the pre-recorded prank calls are harmless in nature, there are quite a few that receivers have found to be threatening, such as a man calling to ask if his wife has been cheating on him with the call receiver.

A quick look online shows a slew of business complaints, most from unwilling recipients of prank calls, listing incidents of bullying, stalking and harassment, resulting in having to change phone numbers.

Parents should be aware that when users download the PrankDial app, they’re prompted to use Facebook to login, and many users have complained of having their Facebook email information mined and exploited afterwards.

Once registered, users are offered two free calls per day, with the option of purchasing tokens to enable them to make more prank calls. Users are also given the option to complete surveys, in exchange for tokens, but many users have complained of data mining as a result of completing the surveys, resulting in a barrage of spam emails.

Those on the receiving end of PrankDial calls can add their number to the “Do Not Call” list on PrankDial’s site, using the “Block My Number” link. It’s important to note, however, that many people have complained that their number has not been successfully blocked from receiving PrankDial calls.

Parents should be aware of the anonymous aspect of PrankDial. Children can potentially be sending prank calls to harass and bully other students without their identity being exposed, and unless parents monitor all of their child’s phone calls, their child could be on the receiving end of one of these calls; the use of this app for bullying can have potentially dangerous ramifications that every parent should be aware of.
