What is Laugh & Learn™ First Words Fun?

Laugh and Learn First Words Fun is a tie-in app for Fisher Price’s Laugh and Learn series of educational toys for babies and toddlers.

Laugh and Learn First Words Fun is free to download and play, and is available for both Android and iOS devices.  There are no in-app advertisements or purchases, and the app serves simple concepts for young learners.

Organized into three levels named Explore, Encourage and Pretend,  Laugh and Learn First Words Fun offers activities for babies ranging in age from six months to two years.

Blocks serve words, objects and concepts (such as seasons of the year and matching) in a familiar format for young children to practice and learn.

Level one of Laugh and Learn First Words Fun is meant for babies to explore word concepts. Geared towards babies ages six months and older the Explore level teaches simple and familiar first words and brings those objects to life through animation, which provides context for each word.

As the level opens, blocks appear on the screen, each with a shape and a word included. Seasonal or weather blocks illustrate the words and concept of rain, wind, sun and snow, while repeating those words in audio.

Laugh and Learn First Words Fun offers a second level for older babies, ages twelve months and older, encouraging the development of fine motor and critical thinking skills through simple matching games.

This second level builds upon words learned in the first, and again uses the illustrated wooden blocks with objects on them in matching. As the level opens, Puppy explains what matching is and shows little ones how matching is done.

Babies are then served sets of blocks, often jumbled, to be matched. Each time a block is tapped or dragged, it repeats the name of the object on the block. As babies proceed, the app progressively adds additional pairs of blocks to be matched.

The final level of the Laugh and Learn First Words Fun app encourages toddlers, eighteen months of age and older, to pretend and explore the four season.

Again, words, images and objects learned in the previous levels are added to the third level. For each season children see a scene featuring both Puppy and Sis, with the familiar illustrated wooden blocks at the bottom of the screen.

Toddlers are instructed to drag each block into the scene.  Seasonally appropriate clothing articles and items are named and then put on to illustrate their use as well as other seasonal items.

At the end of each seasonal scene, once all of the blocks have been dragged into the scene a short animation plays with an educational rhyming jingle that tells about the season.

Is Laugh & Learn™ First Words Fun safe for my kids?

Parents should know that the Laugh and Learn First Words Fun app is a digital addition to Fisher Price’s Laugh and Learn line of educational toys, most notably the Laugh and Learn Smart Stages Puppy.   This app is made for and is safe for kids.

Little ones will recognize their favorite characters, Puppy and Sis, in animated form as they tap through the educational videos and games on the app.

Parents should be aware that Laugh and Learn First Words Fun is a free, simple, early educational app.  Most of the exercises and concepts included appear readily in board books and flashcards.

It’s important to note that the biggest customer complaint is the ease in which babies and toddlers are able to exit out of the app as there is no screen lock which can be extremely frustrating to manage.
