InstantReport is an app meant to be used in-tandem with Instagram to analyze platform activity. The InstantReport app is only available for iOS devices, is free to download, but does feature additional in-app purchases.  This app doesn’t pose any content issues for teens, but there are not many reasons it would make sense for a teen to utilize this app.

What is InstantReport: Followers Stats?

InstantReport is an app meant to be used in-tandem with Instagram to analyze platform activity. Users can track any and all Instagram interaction with the InstantReport app, using the analytics to inform future posts.

The InstantReport app is only available for iOS devices, is free to download, but does feature additional in-app purchases. Users will benefit more from the additional functionality that comes with paying a monthly subscription.

As the name suggests, the InstantReport app provides detailed analytics for Instagram accounts, such as the number of likes and follows an account receives, as well as the number of people who have unfollowed an account.

Having access to detailed Instagram activity can help guide social influencers and brands in creating and posting content that delivers.

For example, brands can track post engagement to help determine what types of posts do well with their audience, in addition to providing valuable insight into posts that are not received well and are met by people unfollowing their account.

The reality, however, is that the InstantReport app, while free, only gives detailed information if a user subscribes to the app. Subscriptions are available via in-app purchase and cost $4.99 monthly, $17.99 for six months, or $23.99 for a one-year subscription.

Is InstantReport: Followers Stats safe for my kids?

Parents should know that, per the developer’s terms of privacy, the InstantReport app is not intended for use by children under the age of 13.

Parents should also be aware that Instagram has reduced the number of third-party APIs that have access to the platform, so any information that InstantReport claims to have taken from Instagram should be viewed as suspect.

While InstantReport may access information about people who interact with a user’s Instagram account, it does not have access to information about people who look at an account without interacting as the app implies.

Users should be aware that the InstantReport app has a user review score of 1.6 out of 5 in the App Store. The reality is that InstantReport collects and displays information that is readily available through Instagram, such as those followers who have liked or commented on a user’s posts the most.

InstantReport’s low rating is due to the draw of the promise to show users their Instagram “stalkers” or lurkers, tricking people into believe that the app has access to data about people who look at but don’t interact with a user’s profile.

InstantReport is a great app for social influencers, social media managers and brands, but not necessarily great for children.

So, while the InstantReport app poses no potential issues in terms of content or age requirements, the fact that a child would want to use such a specific tracker for their Instagram analytics is troubling.

Using an app like InstantReport can help feed into a teen’s social media anxiety, and encourage an unhealthy habit of not only checking social media often, but also of tying in feelings of self-worth with social media statistics and outcomes.
