What is GPS Tracks?
GPS Tracks is a navigational app made for outdoor enthusiasts. GPS Tracks users can track their hiking, biking or running routes, use the app to navigate to a waypoint, or save specific location data for hunting and fishing.
GPS Tracks is only available for iOS devices, is rated for users of all ages, and costs $3.99 to download in the App Store. GPS Tracks does feature additional in-app purchases, but does not feature any in-app advertisements.
Rated number four for navigation apps in the App Store, GPS Tracks is perfect for a wide range of uses and users and offers more precise navigation than traditional GPS driving navigational apps.
A feature that sets GPS Tracks apart from others on the market is the ability for users to access maps offline in areas without cell service. No cell service? No worries.
To take advantage of GPS Tracks offline maps capabilities, users will need to make an annual in-app purchase of $19.99 for a GPS Tracks Pro subscription.
Hikers, hunters, and other outdoorsy types will appreciate the ability to backtrack with the GPS Tracks app. Whereas typical map apps simply guide users to a specific location, GPS Tracks keeps a record of the exact route a user takes, allowing them to easily find their way back out of the woods or navigate trailheads back to their starting point.
The GPS Tracks app features so many different options that it can be overwhelming to use. However, narrowing down by activity will help users navigate what options they’ll need to select, whether traveling by foot, air, boat, or cycle.
Perhaps the easiest and simplest way to use the GPS Tracks app is to simply tap the Start button when in the app.
The opening screen will show a map of the area in which you’re located, and tapping the Start button begins the live tracking process, drawing a trail as you proceed.
Tapping the Stop button gives users several options, including saving the data and the option to Pause tracking (this option saves battery life).
When users choose the Stop and Save option, they’re prompted to name that particular Track for easy reference at a later time.
GPS Tracks is also helpful in planning routes, especially for hiking, cycling or running. Users can open up the map when at their location and draw the route they wish to follow on the screen.
GPS Tracks will show the distance for a user’s traced route in whatever format they wish to use (kilometers, feet, yards, miles, etc.) which they can then use to plan accordingly.
Another nice feature, especially helpful for those boating, is the ability to draw a line between two points and have the GPS Tracks app calculate the distance.
Is GPS Tracks safe for my kids?
Obviously, the GPS Tracks app requires access to user smartphone location data, so parents should be aware that permission must be granted in order to use the app.
While GPS Tracks is one of the more pricey apps in the App Store, those spending a great deal of time outdoors will find the app well worth the cost.
This app is safe for kids.
