What is First Words & Numbers for Baby?

First Words is a free app designed to help toddlers learn colors, shapes, foods, and much more to give them a jump start on their education. Three different games help to teach and reinforce vocabulary, visual recognition, and categorization.

This app is only available in the App Store, is rated for everyone, and does offer in-app purchases. For $2.99, users will be able to unlock all games and categories

This fun, educational game is created for ages 1.5+. First Words features three colorfully animated games, matching, sorting, and find it, in which kids can practice 12 educational categories, including shapes, foods, colors, animals, and more.

The three games are designed to first teach, then reinforce, and finally perfect the skills they have learned.

In sorting, toddlers drag cards onto the identical pictures on the screen, and the name of each card is pronounced to help them learn the vocabulary. In matching, the kids find the missing halves of pictures to aid their visual recognition and categorization skills. Finally, in find it, kids practice the vocabulary skills learned by tapping on the picture of a word pronounced in the game.

The app receives positive reviews, scoring a clean 4 out of 5 in the app store review section. Many parents say their young kids, around 2 years old, love First Words and are learning as they play. The game format and colorful animations keep kids engaged and lets them enjoy the early education process.

Is First Words & Numbers for Baby safe for my kids?

First Words is a fun and safe place for toddlers to begin developing vocabulary and important lingual skills. This app is best for kids from 1.5 to about 3 years old.

The benefits of First Words – Toddler Learning Games are many, from the obvious benefit of vocabulary practice and early categorization skills to subtler benefits like the development of fine motor skills.

The app does feature an in-app purchase which unlocks all games, allowing parents to let their children play for free to see if they like the game and if it is a good fit before unlocking the full version, which many parents seem to do.

While the app is great, it is important that parents take time to engage in the app with their children and partake in the process of their early education.

Leaving their kids to learn purely from the app could lay the foundations for tech addiction, as they are learning to engage in and learn about the world through only the screen.

By spending time playing the app with their kids and also taking the skills learned away from the screen to apply to the real world, parents can make the most of the benefits of First Words and other educational apps, while avoiding the possible downsides of tech era early education.
