What is Edmodo: Your Online Classroom?

Edmodo is an app designed for teachers to communicate information to students and parents outside of the classroom.


Edmodo is available for both iOS and Android devices.  It is rated for users of all ages and does feature advertisements.


Modeled as an educational social media platform, students can see their grades, post assignments, and share information or files with classmates and teachers, as well as join group projects.


Parents can also track their child's progress and communicate directly with teachers from the Edmodo app.


Edmodo is run by an educational technology company which builds collaboration and teaching platforms for classrooms from kindergarten through high school. Students can only join Edmodo if invited by their teacher.


Within the classroom, teachers can use Edmodo to share content, distribute quizzes, track assignments, and manage all classroom-related communications.


As of July 2017 Edmodo claimed to have over 78M users worldwide.

Is Edmodo: Your Online Classroom safe for my kids?

Edmodo is safe for children in the K-12 age group. All content is subject to review by teachers, and the children communicate within the invite-only environment of the app. Edmodo is essentially a classroom-specific internet, with all of the advantages and few of the drawbacks.

If your child is invite to use Edmodo, the company won't charge you for access. Basic Edmodo accounts are free, and the premium accounts are estimated to cost school districts one dollar per student per year.

Students can use their Microsoft or Google accounts to access Edmodo, with the option to integrated DropBox for file sharing options.
