What is Total Trivia?
Total Trivia is a gaming app in which players compete to win prizes. Total Trivia partners with brands to sponsor tournaments in which players compete to win the featured prize.
This app is available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store. Total Trivia features in-app purchases and is rated for users seventeen years of age and older
As the framework of the app is a marketing tool, Total Trivia is free to download. In addition to trying their hand at trivia and quizzes, users can play to earn discounts on sponsoring brand products, when they enter tournaments.
Once users download the Total Trivia app, they’ll be prompted to either register or login. To register, users first choose either a photo (from Facebook or uploading from their phone) or an avatar to be associated with their account.
Users are then prompted to enter either their email address, or use their Facebook account to register. After inputting contact information, users are prompted to fill out their mailing information, so that Total Trivia can ship any prize wins to their home.
After registering, the Total Trivia app opens with the day’s challenge, for which users are rewarded tickets, upon successful completion of the challenge.
Users must “spend” tickets, the currency of the Total Trivia app, to “enter” into tournaments; in essence, cashing in tickets to play each round of trivia, in an effort to boost their score in the tournament (and hopefully win the prize). Users, with under 6,000 points accrued, have the option to watch a sponsored video in lieu of tickets, but most prizes have tournament leaders with well over 6,000 points accrued.
Total Trivia then gives users the option to either purchase a Booster or Fast Track with tickets; a Booster increases the point value for each correctly answered question, and Fast Track matches a player’s points with the tournament leader’s current point value.
In-app purchases come in the form of ticket purchases, which range in price from $1 to $50 for ticket bundles. In this regard, Total Trivia players really aren’t getting anything for free if they win, as they will have had to purchase tickets to play enough trivia games to reach the high score.
Is Total Trivia safe for my kids?
Parents should know that the Total Trivia app is a clever marketing tool, hidden under the guise of a trivia and quiz gaming app. Per Total Trivia, “We created Total Trivia to offer Shoppers who like quiz and trivia games a unique opportunity to convert their attention into savings from their favorite brands.”
It’s also important to note that players must be 17 years or older to download the app, so parents who discover this app on their younger child’s phone should be aware that they’re violating the terms of service.
Parents should be aware that there really is no way to successfully play this app (and win prizes) without taking advantage of in-app purchases. This app is not recommended for kids.
Parents should be aware that Total Trivia is an app that requires users to be 17 years or older, and, while offered for free download, will not generate any prizes unless users spend money to purchase ticket bundles.
It may also be wise for parents to password protect any app purchases on their children’s phones to prevent any unwanted expenditures.
