What is Super Mario Run?
Super Mario Run is a platform runner gaming app that allows Nintendo fans to get their Mario fix while on-the-go, on iOS and Android devices. The Super Mario Run app is free to download and play, but does feature in-app purchases to unlock additional modes.
The characters will be familiar, and the quest to collect coins and beat the clock is the same, but navigating Super Mario with a series of screen taps will present a challenge.
When Super Mario Run opens, players are fed the backstory of the game via text boxes and a short animation plays. Super Mario fans will recognize old favorites such as Princess Peach and Yoshi, and yet again, Bowser is wreaking havoc in the kingdom.
The game opens, and players begin the first stage of the game with tutorials to help them get the feel for controls.
Super Mario Run is a running platform game, which means that Mario moves forward automatically, without having to press a forward control. Super Mario also automatically vaults over small obstacles and enemies making extended gameplay a little easier in this mobile edition.
Players make Super Mario jump, vault and spin by tapping the screen and holding. The longer users tap and hold, the higher Super Mario jumps and the longer the air time he has.
As with all Super Mario games, defeating enemies and collecting coins, while navigating through platforms and obstacles, is the goal of the game while progressing closer to the castle.
Super Mario Run features bonus colored coins, which can later be used to unlock additional characters. Like other Super Mario game versions, players may switch the character they use to navigate different levels once they’ve been unlocked with coins.
Is Super Mario Run safe for my kids?
Parents familiar with Nintendo’s Super Mario line of games will know that the content of Super Mario Run is perfectly suited for children ages four years and older.
What parents need to know, however, is that children will not be able to access all six of Super Mario Run’s worlds unless they pay $9.99 to unlock them.
Players can, however, try out each of the four modes featured in the Super Mario Run app which include World Tour, Toad Rally, Remix 10 (a quick minigame series), and Kingdom Builder.
Comprised of four modes with multiple levels within, Super Mario Run offers some variety in the games it offers players.
Players are able to challenge players across the world and their own friends if they’ve synced the app with social media, to show off their moves and collect coins and toads in the Toad Rally mode.
The coins and toads collected in Toad Rally can then be used to create, build and decorate their own kingdom in the Kingdom Builder mode (so an entire mode is offered for players to cash-in their winnings through gameplay).
With colorful and bold graphic, as well as familiar characters and settings, parents can feel confident allowing their children to play Super Mario Run. This app is safe for kids.
