What is SocialViewer for Instagram?
SocialViewer for Instagram is an app that purports to calculate user analytics for the popular social media platform.
The SocialViewer app is only available for iOS devices and is free to download and use but users will benefit more from the additional functionality that comes with paying a monthly subscription. This app is rated for everyone.
As the name suggests, the SocialViewer app provides detailed analytics, or views, for Instagram accounts, such as the number of likes and follows an account receives.
Having access to detailed Instagram activity can help guide social influencers and brands in creating and posting content that delivers.
For example, brands can track post engagement to help determine what types of posts do well with their audience, in addition to providing valuable insight into posts that are not received well.
The reality, however, is that the SocialViewer app, while free to download only gives detailed information if a user subscribes to the app. Subscriptions are available through in-app purchase and cost either $6.99 monthly, $29.99 for six months, or $47.99 for a one-year subscription.
Setup is relatively easy for the SocialViewer for Instagram app. Users log in using their Instagram account and the app initiates the analytics process.
Once logged in, SocialViewer calculates Instagram activity to get data for user interactions and provides a list of people who have recently interacted with a user’s profile. It then populates any activity and interactions including likes, comments, photos tagged of the user, new followers and messaging interactions from those users.
Is SocialViewer for Instagram safe for my kids?
SocialViewer could be a good app for social influencers, social media managers, and brands if it actually worked, but it's definitely not great for children. And despite being rated for users of all ages, SocialViewer is to be used in tandem with an Instagram account; Instagram terms of use require users to be 13 years of age or older.
Many user reviews accuse the SocialViewer app of being a scam, and it’s important to note that the app has a 2.4 user rating in the App Store. User reviews are scathing:
They won’t show you anything unless you buy their “pro” version yet they put this up for free to invade your device. It’s crap! You log in and they won’t let you see even 1 person without paying so this is false advertisement. Also once you log in they add people to your following list forcing you to follow strangers on Instagram. They are probably running one of those pay for followers scams and use this platform as a way to get those peeps their new followers. I have to manually unfollow all of them and I didn’t even get to see who’s viewed my profile. Beware!!!
For those who take the time to review the developer’s privacy policy, they outright admit that the so-called “analytics” are bogus:
What kind of reports will SocialViewer show you? SocialViewer is an entertainment service and we do not guarantee to give you %100 real reports. It was only designed to make you having fun. You accept that we do not guarantee to give you exact true reports by downloading and upgrading your membership.
Why, then, would anyone want to pay for false analytics as a form of entertainment? Especially when there are other apps out there that do provide analytic information for Instagram.
Although this app is safe for teens, parents should steer clear of the SocialViewer app for Instagram, it’s a waste of money.
