What is Sky Map?

Sky Map is an interactive planetarium app that allows users to identify different landmarks in space, such as planets, stars, and nebulae.

Sky Map is only available in the Google Play Store and is rated for users of all ages. There are no in-app purchases or advertisements.

If you see something in the sky that you would like to identify, you can simply point your phone at it while using the app and wait for Sky Map to give you the necessary information.

If you instead are looking for a specific landmark and are unable to find it, type the name into the app’s search feature and the interactive map will help guide you to what you are looking for.

In addition to acting as a map, the app also provides users with vivid photos of what different stars and planets look like from a closer proximity.

While the app generally receives positive reviews, particularly because it is completely free, some users have commented that the GPS feature oftentimes runs into difficulties and is unable to accurately track a user’s location.

Is Sky Map safe for my kids?

Because it does not contain any inappropriate themes and is meant to be used purely for educational purposes, Sky Map is safe for kids.

It does not currently have an age verification process in place to download or use the app.

Parents should know that while the app is appropriate for almost all ages, it does require certain analysis skills to be properly used.

Reading a map and working with GPS coordinates is not easy for everyone, and some young children might find this to be frustrating. If you think your child is unable to use this app on their own, consider allowing them to only use it with parental supervision.

Additionally, because Sky Map does not offer in-app purchases, you do not have to worry about your child making unwanted transactions.

Similarly, the app does not contain any interactive features, meaning that the risk of your child running into an internet predator while using Sky Map is almost none.
