Riptide GP: Renegade is a gaming app that features water-based race courses for players to navigate.
Riptide GP is available to download for $2.99, is rated for players 9 years of age and older, and does not feature any additional in-app purchases or advertisements. Riptide GP can be found in both the App Store and the Google Play Store.
Dressed in sleek, modern wetsuits, players are outfitted from helmet to toe. Players are given the option to choose the gender of their racing character, featuring names like Impact and Poison.
Text boxes create cutscenes with a little trash talk, but nothing exceptionally racey, police evasion (for illegal racing) and friendly competition.
It’s important to note that players can choose to quickly skip through the text box cutscenes to get right to the action.
Once a player’s first race begins text boxes provide hints for controlling their race-ski. Controls are incredibly responsive, allowing players to “steer” by tilting their device or using arrow controls on their device screen.
Players’ avatars respond as responsively as their vehicle, with bodies leaning from side to side and arms and legs flailing with jump stunts.
Once players complete their first track and are comfortable with the controls, the following tracks feature obstacles enabling players to perform stunts as they race. Again, text boxes provide detailed instructions for performing stunts, pausing the action to teach players along the way.
Players have the option to play against AI or in multiplayer mode with up to 8 players in Riptide GP: Renegade. Playing against AI, according to user feedback doesn’t present much of a challenge or competition, as the AI doesn’t present a lot of competition for first place, so players may prefer to race against other players live.
One downside of Riptide GP: Renegade is that the action progresses so fast that players are unable to appreciate the design aspects of the game entirely.
While player avatars are responsive, lending to the realistic look and feel of the game, the scenery making up the different courses is incredibly detailed.
Is Riptide GP: Renegade safe for my kids?
Parents should know that Riptide GP: Renegade is a racing game, with players riding jet ski/motorcycle-type vehicles in a race through a water track.
The graphics are beautifully realistic which is why the age rating is set for slightly older children. Riptide GP: Renegade features wrecks which can be brutal but don’t feature any blood or gore.
And while cutscenes try to provide a storyline to go along with the game, it’s unnecessary as the racing game by itself is enough to keep players occupied.
Parents need not worry about the multiplayer mode as the players are unable to interact or communicate. Players can, however, check their progress against others on the leaderboard.
Overall, Riptide GP: Renegade is a fun, interactive racing game with responsive controls and beautiful graphics. Violent wrecks and illegal racing are the only potential concerns for parents, which is why the game carries a rating as suitable for players 9 years of age and older. This app is safe for mature kids.
