What is Pokémon GO?

Pokémon Go is a popular gaming app that allows players to use their phone cameras to track down Pokémon and throw Poke Balls at them to add them to their collections.

This app is available for both iOS and Android devices and does feature in-app purchases. Pokémon Go is rated for users of all ages.

Once the app is downloaded and a user creates their account, they can begin searching for Pokémon and advancing through the game’s levels.

The more a user walks while using the app, the more they will be able to catch new types of Pokémon, help their Pokémon eggs hatch, and collect Pokémon Balls as well as other items.

In addition to simply catching Pokémon, players can also compete in different challenges by joining teams and working with other users to defeat powerful Pokémon.

Users can now connect through the app to unlock bonuses, send gifts, and trade Pokémon.

Although the app is free to both download and play, there is the option of making in-app purchases in order to stock up on pokecoins.

While Pokémon Go has generally received positive reviews, some users have stated that there are problems with recent updates.

Is Pokémon GO safe for my kids?

Because of its interactive nature and the ability to connect with strangers, Pokémon Go is safe for mature kids with parental supervision. There is currently no age verification process in place.

It is important for parents to know that this app allows users to add other players as ‘friends’ and communicate with each other for the purpose of sending gifts, trading Pokémon, and competing in challenges together.

While this does create the potential for users to encounter strangers, photo sharing and live streaming are not allowed. If you are not comfortable with your child communicating with others through the app, simply monitor them while they are playing and do not allow them to add any friends.

Despite the ability to connect with others, the app itself does not contain any overtly mature or inappropriate themes.

Like with all video games, it is important to use Pokémon Go in moderation. Make sure to set limits for how often your child can use the app and discuss with them the dangers of forming a tech addiction.

Finally, Pokémon Go allows users to make in-app purchases, something that parents may not be comfortable with their child having access to. If this is the case, simply disable in-app purchases in the phone’s settings.
