What is Plants vs. Zombies™ Heroes?
With a virtual deck of playing cards, the Plants vs. Zombies Heroes app pits the titular characters against one another in a game that’s a mix of both strategy and chance.
Users must be 13 years of age and older to play Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, which is free to download and play but does include advertisements and in-app purchases. In-app purchases range in price from $.99 to $19.99. This app can be found in both the App Store and the Google Play Store.
Players already familiar with the Plants vs. Zombies franchise will get the gist of the game, the object is to take out a zombie hero, but will delight in the new storyline.
When loading, the Plants vs. Zombies app instructs players that it’s best played with headphones and they’re not kidding. Full sound is reminiscent of character-themed rides at Universal or Disney, with a deep-voiced narrator and musical accompaniment.
As the game loads, the storyline is told through comic strips with fun comic cover mockups splashed across the screen. However, younger children may miss some of the action and instructions as they’re shown on the screen at a fast pace.
While Plants vs. Zombies Heroes players don’t have a hand in which cards they’re dealt, they can choose the playing cards that best fit their strategy in the game.
Situated on opposing sides of a lawn area, the space is comprised of five lanes of play, but some lanes are waterways or roof area instead of all grass, players choose the best plants in their strategy to defeat the Zombie hero.
What’s nice about Plants vs. Zombies Heroes is that beginning players are given precise directions through the first rounds of gameplay to help them get a feel for the strategy.
Players new to the Plants vs. Zombies franchise will have no problem picking up the game. Those players well-versed in Pokémon will find Plants vs. Zombies Heroes extraordinarily similar and a nice change of pace with the same type of gameplay.
Plants vs. Zombies Heroes offers players daily bonuses and quests that provide opportunities for players to earn gems and rare playing cards. Players begin playing as Plants in the game but have the chance to change sides and play as Zombies once they’ve progressed through the game and unlocked the opportunity.
Gems offer players the ability to open Premium Packs of cards, which are guaranteed to have a “Rare” card or better within them. And while gems are awarded through gameplay, players who purchase gem packages through in-app purchases, ranging in price from $0.99 to $39.99, will find themselves progressing faster and able to play stronger hands with more varied strategies.
Is Plants vs. Zombies™ Heroes safe for my kids?
Parents should be aware that the App Store rates the Plants vs. Zombies Heroes app for players ages nine and older, but the EA terms of use explicitly state that users must be 13 years of age or older to create an EA account and players must have an EA account to access and play the game.
Concerning content, parents should be aware that Plants vs. Zombies Heroes is built around the premise of attacking one another, although all of the characters and their “weapons” are entirely cartoons and you’ll only find goofy looking Zombies in this game.
Lastly, parents will want to discuss spending expectations before allowing their children to play Plants vs. Zombies Heroes and ideally password protect any purchases as the draw to purchase gem packages is strong.
This app is safe for kids.
