Picniic calls itself “The Next Gen Family Organizer” and has many elements that keep family members on the same page throughout their daily activities. Features include family news, recipes, shopping list, calendar, to-do list, photos, social circles, and special events.
It’s compatible with calendars from Google, Yahoo! and Windows and can sync them all up on the app. The calendar function allows family members to add events and appointments in so everyone can see the plan hour by hour. Users can update the to-do list and assign specific tasks to certain family members, who can then cross it off the list when it’s completed. The Family Locator feature is a map that shows where each member of the family is (provided they have the app, too).
It is free to download and offers a yearly subscription for $99.99 to unlock all the features. Similar apps include Cozi Family Organizer and Hub Family Calendar Organizer. The average user rates Picniic 4 out of 5 stars, although there are many complaints about bugs and crashes. Even so, the app has over 50,000 downloads and has been mentioned by CBS, Forbes, USA Today, TIME Magazine, and The Boston Globe.
Is Family Organizer by Picniic safe for my kids?
Picniic is safe for kids with some parental supervision. This app is best used by families with teens, as it keeps track of where they are and encourages constant communication and check-ins. That being said, there is not many reasons that kids and teens would be using this app without their parents as there wouldn't be much use.
Some of the features on Picniic could seem risky for parents of younger children. For example, the Info Locker function is a useful way to store family information such as insurance, medical records, and emergency contacts. The info is encrypted for security, but it could still be a concern for some parents who worry their young kids might mess with the app.
Picniic also requires permission to view your location, camera, contacts, and phone storage, so that’s something else for parents to be aware of.
That being said, Picniic is meant for family members to chat while on the go and keep each other in the loop. It is not a social networking app, so users don’t interact with outsiders or strangers. Their info is accessed by Picniic for syncing purposes, and there are plenty of users who also have young children.
As with any app, it’s important to exercise caution and keep sensitive information password-protected. Apps that are similar to Picniic but aren’t exclusively for organization include Family Locator and KultureCity.
