What is OmeTV – Video Chat Alternative?

OmeTV is a video chat app that randomly pairs virtual strangers for text, voice, and video conversations.

OmeTV is rated for users 17 years and older, does not feature advertisements, but does feature in-app purchases starting at $10.99.  This app is only available in the Google Play Store.

A chatroulette, if you will, the OmeTV app allows users to be connected with strangers, across the globe, for random text, voice and video chats.

With their name, OmeTV is capitalizing off of the success of the Omegle app and offers virtually identical services.

Is OmeTV – Video Chat Alternative safe for my kids?

Parents should be aware that OmeTV is not safe for minors. Anytime random video chats with strangers are involved, paired with the live stream aspect, children are at risk of being exposed to predators or mature content; OmeTV is no different.

Everything about the OmeTV app is what parents want their children to stay away from. With the OmeTV app, users are picked and paired at random, allowing them to have one-on-one chats with each other, via text, voice or video calls.

And while the app allows users under the age of 18 years use the app with parental consent, the likelihood of this happening in all cases with minors is slim.

For this reason, parents should be on the lookout for the OmeTV app on their child’s phone and have an open conversation if the app is found without their consent.

While it’s great that the OmeTV app allows users to remain anonymous, that anonymity is also an absolute recipe for disaster. Case in point is a common user complaint that many of the “strangers” they are paired with are men pleasuring themselves on camera, not something any parent would want their child to come across.

Perhaps even more alarming for parents is the fact that users may have text conversations with complete strangers through the OmeTV app.

OmeTV users have the ability to attach files and photos in text conversations with other users, and illicit photo requests can and often do occur in chats with strangers.

OmeTV is the epitome of stranger danger, especially with younger users who may not be as wise to the ways of anonymous internet chats.

OmeTV developers maintain that the app is “safe and secure” to use because the system monitors chat rules violations automatically.

How an app is able to monitor live-streamed video chats remains an unanswered question. OmeTV moderators are available 24-7 to respond to complaints, but by this time the damage will have already occurred, especially if it concerns a minor.

One last area of concern is the link to the developer’s privacy policy. When selected in the Play Store, the link takes users to the privacy policy for an app called Video Chat Alternative -- Cam Chat Free for Random Online Dating, which looks almost exactly like OmeTV.
