What is Omega Random Video Chat Omegle?

Note: This app is no longer available in the Google Play Store.

The Omegle app allows users to be connected with strangers, across the globe, for random text, voice and video chats. Rated for users ages 17 years of age and older, but open to users as young as 13 with parental consent Omegle is free to download and use, but heavily features ads and in-app purchases. Omegle is only available for Android devices and can be found in the Google Play store.

Perhaps one of the scariest features of the Omegle app, apart from pairing users with strangers for chats, is how the developers describe the “perks” of the platform:

One of the best thing of our chat is that everything is entirely anonymous. You don’t have to create an account; simply press the start button and begin browsing online users. Nobody will ever have to know that you were on this platform. With no registration procedures, you will be able to jump straight into the action without any delays. No waiting periods and no history of you using this app. If you want to make sure that nobody ever finds out who you really are, you’re definitely in for a treat, because other users will only know what you tell them about yourself.

Is Omega Random Video Chat Omegle safe for my kids?

Omegle is not a safe app for your kids to use. Everything about the Omegle app is what parents want their children to stay away from; in fact, the Omegle app’s slogan is, “Talk to strangers!” With the Omegle app, users are picked and paired at random, allowing them to have one-on-one chats with each other, via text, voice or video calls.

And while the app allows users under the age of 18 years use the app with parental consent, the likelihood of this happening in all cases with minors is slim. For this reason, parents should be on the lookout for the Omegle app on their child’s phone, and have an open conversation if the app is found without their consent.

On one hand, it’s great that the Omegle app allows users to remain anonymous, but on the other, anonymity is an absolute recipe for disaster. Case in point is a common user complaint that many of the “strangers” they are paired with are men exposing themselves on camera, not something any parent would want their child to come across, ever. Other common user complaints are that the app is riddled with viruses and that ad play takes up the majority of user time on the app (not actual chats with strangers).

Perhaps even more alarming for parents is the fact that users may have text conversations with complete strangers through the Omegle app. Omegle users have the ability to attach files such as photos in text conversations with other users, and illicit photo requests can and often do occur in chats with strangers.

Omegle is the epitome of stranger danger, especially with younger users who may not be as wise to the ways of anonymous internet chats. Parents, keep your kids far away from the Omegle app -- there’s nothing good for children to see or do here.
