What is goPuff?

Virtual personal shopping and delivery is what the goPuff app is all about, using a platform similar to one-stop restaurant takeout delivery services.

Users in large cities can now shop from the safety and convenience of their home, virtually anytime of the day or night, and have their orders delivered to their door in 30 minutes.

Rated for everyone, the goPuff app is like having a personal assistant on-call at all hours.

goPuff is an on-demand delivery service for household necessities, such as groceries or toiletries, as well as office supplies and electronics (perfect for running out of printer ink at 3 a.m. or discovering your phone charging cord is shot at midnight).

Free to download, users can then sign up for an account through their Facebook login credentials or email address. Users may then shop through the app, via search bar or by category, and add items to their cart for delivery.

And while the app offers both cash and credit card payment options, customers have had difficulty with both methods as some customers have had to wait 1-2 business days for credit card refunds on items out of stock (despite the ability to order them through the app), and cash customers have had issues with delivery drivers not having change.

Another complaint is the inability to cancel orders after placing, especially those orders far exceeding the delivery window.

goPuff orders over $35 are delivered free of charge, while orders under $35 are charged a minimal $1.95 delivery fee (not including driver tip). For those users placing orders to be shipped, orders over $49 ship for free.

To encourage customer loyalty, and make shopping with goPuff fun, the app awards points for each dollar spent with the service, which can be redeemed for prizes.

Is goPuff safe for my kids?

Because this is an on-demand delivery service with expansive hours (even throughout the night), goPuff is a helpful option for college students and is only safe for mature teens. Parents don’t need to worry about their child’s safety with 2 a.m. trips to the store for necessities, since goPuff does the work for them while they wait in the safety of their dorm or apartment.

It’s important to note that due to the nature of the service, goPuff delivery areas are confined to larger cities. Users living outside the goPuff delivery area may still place orders to be shipped to them (but obviously won’t be able to take advantage of the on-demand aspect of the app).

While touting a 30-minute delivery time window, parents should know that many users report a much longer wait time (sometimes up to two hours).

Other goPuff complaints include order statuses and confirmations not updating, delivery area mix-ups (not being caught until a user calls customer service to inquire about their order), orders being cancelled without explanation, and difficulty reaching customer service by phone.

Parents might be interested to know that goPuff was founded around shisha and smoking accessories, and originally began by delivering rolling papers, tobacco, e-cigs and various snack items late night to college students.

The app has since expanded to include virtually everything a decent sized convenience store would offer, at similar price points. While the app is a great idea to keep college students off city streets in the middle of the night, the number of user complaints suggests that the app can use more work.
