What is Google?

The Google app allows users to quickly search the internet on the go.

The Google app is free to download and use and is rated for users of all ages.  It is available for both iOS and Android devices.  There are no in-app purchases but this app does feature advertisements.

The Google app is a one-stop app to get tech-driven users all the information they could possibly want with just a tap of a finger.

The Google app will ask users for permission to access their location information, which is then used to provide internet search results of local interest, area weather, top local and national headlines, as well as any other newsworthy events related to a user’s online interests.

Time-crunched adults may like the fact that the Google app is a “smart app” that uses search preferences to create a feed of articles of interest in their newsfeed.

Those using the Google Chrome web browser, which stores user information, on their PCs will find a greater accuracy in suggested articles and newsworthy events. The Google app also syncs with a user’s Google Calendar to load meetings and activities into the app’s calendar, which displays a daily Agenda.

Those users who find themselves beckoned away from their device while reading an article of interest will be happy to know that the Google app saves a history of article links, to which users can easily navigate with a tap of a finger.

The Google app’s Settings menu also allows users to customize their news feed manually or turn it off altogether. By tapping on broad topics from a list, users can select areas of interest of which they will be served content, such as sports, athletes, hobbies, and public figures.

Sports has it’s own menu under Settings, and users can set preferences to receive notifications, updates, video highlights, select the teams they follow, as well as the sports leagues they support, for a completely customized experience. Like the news feed, users may opt to turn off notifications for sports as well.

Is Google safe for my kids?

Parents uneasy with the Big Brother aspect of Google will want their children to deny the app access to their location information. Turning off location information does not affect the performance of the Google app, it merely eliminates items of local interest.

Parents will want to take note that the Google app’s Settings menu offers an option for users to “Turn on incognito.” When users enable this setting, their recent activity and search history are not available. The incognito search option can be a parent’s worst enemy if they rely on checking their child’s phone each night to monitor activity

Google app users can “go deep” with the app and completely sync it with their daily life, selecting from a multitude of preferences. Allowing the Google app to access one’s location will enable the app to send notifications related to places they travel.

Users can also receive bill payment reminders for bills that come to their Google mail account. Additionally, users can receive recipe recommendations, receive flight and fare updates, parking location updates both at home or at work, as well as a slew of other customized options.

The only limit to using the Google app is how much a user chooses to allow or not allow their personal information and location to be accessed via one of the many Google services linked to Google accounts.

This app is safe for kids.
