What is Fishbrain - Fishing App?

Called ‘Facebook for Fishermen’ and ‘Instagram for Fishing’, the Fishbrain app is specialized social media, catering to anglers. Fishbrain is rated 4 years or older, but is best for teen and adult users.  It is available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store and features ads and in-app purchases.

Users can consult Fishbrain for fishing information such as finding out where the local fish are feeding as well as to connect with other anglers and log their own catches to share with others.

With an interface that functions similar to Facebook, with a look similar to Instagram, Fishbrain is definitely a specialized social media platform made just for anglers. With over 3 million users, and 2 million catches logged on the app, Fishbrain is the largest social networking and utility app for anglers.

Fishbrain allows users to find new fishing spots, discover hot spots in new areas, or areas to which they’re traveling, learn what the local fish are eating, what species can be found in particular areas, as well as learn new techniques to improve their fishing game.

Fishbrain started in Sweden, but now boasts 74% of users hailing from the United States, with the second largest user base coming out of Austrailia. Perhaps the most convenient aspect of Fishbrain is that it’s not simply confined to a specific species or fishing style nor is it just for fresh or saltwater fishing.

Anglers of all types can use the app to access and share information with the tap of a finger. Simply put, Fishbrain is a fast and easy way to log and access fishing activity.

When users join Fishbrain, they’re asked to answer a few questions about their fishing preferences, such as a favorite species of fish and preferred fishing method, which are then plugged into Fishbrain’s algorithm to suggest content of interest.

Fishbrain’s platform is set up similar to Facebook, even serving content in a similar fashion, with users opening the app to a timeline. Users have the opportunity to befriend fellow anglers on the platform, whose updates and catches then populate their newsfeed.

In addition to the social aspect of the Fishbrain app, users can drill down into a variety of menus to further hone their fishing prowess.

The Explore menu, at the bottom of the screen, opens a GPS-enabled map, which zooms into a user’s location, populating the map with fish icons, which represent both fisheries and member catches.

When a user taps on a catch, they’ll be shown the location of the catch, in addition to catch information, such as fishing method, bait/lure used, species and size, in addition to weather condition and any additional user comments.

Users can quickly add their own catches to the app by pressing the plus sign icon at the bottom of their screen, which allows them to upload a photo of their catch in addition to comments and details.
