What is FindNow?

FindNow is a location sharing and tracking app available for both iPhone and Android devices. While listed as a free app, users are forced to upgrade to a premium account if they wish to use the app after downloading.

Not only does the FindNow app feature full-screen advertisements, but it also forces users to subscribe after promoting itself as free. This app is rated for teens.

The FindNow app uses a phone number to initiate tracking. Users input the phone number of the person they wish to track or follow and the FindNow app sends a follow request to that person.

Once that person accepts the user’s follow request they can track them. The flaw in the design, however, is that all parties must be paying for a FindNow subscription to track or be tracked through the app.

As a result, the FindNow app is not likely to be popular with kids because their friends have to also be subscribers to utilize the app entirely.

What makes it even more unlikely that kids will be flocking to the FindNow app is the prohibitive subscription cost required to use the app. At $19.99 per week or $29.99 per month, it’s not likely people are scrambling to download the FindNow app, especially not youngsters.

On top of the high cost of the app, FindNow only works appropriately when users have their GPS engaged continuously which means their battery life is severely impacted when the app is running.

And while the best use of the FindNow app is likely for traveling families who may get separated, shortened battery life is a significant consideration when traveling and a dead phone even more.

Is FindNow safe for my kids?

FindNow can be described in one word: scammy. The app’s premise is a little creepy, following people in real time.

And while this may ostensibly be a useful tool for parents to keep track of their children, users can revoke tracking privileges at any time, rendering the app useless for parents.

Should the stars align and kids have friends subscribing to the FindNow app, parents will be happy to know that all location sharing must be consensual.

Users must accept a tracking request from their contact to have their location sent, but they may opt to deny or block access location to specific users at any time.

Another point to note is that the FindNow app will work even when users are offline. The app shows the last known location of the device when the contact was online and leaving a GPS trace.

False advertising and a prohibitively expensive subscription cost will likely mean that most parents don’t have to worry about their children using the FindNow app with friends, but just in case, they have the option to revoke their location sharing at any time.

Between the false advertising and the scammy tactics, this app is not safe for your kids.
