What is Covet Fashion: Model Makeover?

Aspiring fashionistas will enjoy creating with the Covet Fashion app, where users mix and match to come up with their own fashion trends.

The Covet Fashion app is rated for users 12 years of age and older.   It can be downloaded for free from the App Store and the Google Play Store. This app does feature in-app purchases and advertisements.

The best part? The clothing and accessories are real items from top designers, so Covet Fashion users can easily purchase favorite items or outfits through direct links within the app.

Free to download, Covet Fashion features advertisements and offers a range of in-app purchases.

Covet Fashion users have the ability to host their own style closet, in which they create custom looks from head-to-toe -- from choosing clothing and accessory items, to creating hair and makeup styles to complete the look.

Especially proud of a style creation? Users can submit their looks to have the Covet Fashion community vote for the best styles in a styling challenge.

Covet Fashion users can also bring friends into their style decisions and discussions by connecting their Facebook account. The perk of making friends while using Covet Fashion is the ability to “borrow” items from a friend’s closet to create or finish a look (rather than having to buy it yourself).

Diamonds are the currency in Covet Fashion, and dictate how many looks fashionistas can put together. In Covet Fashion, users create looks through virtual shopping, spending money from their user account to buy clothing and accessory items to fill their closets and complete their looks.

Is Covet Fashion: Model Makeover safe for my kids?

Parents should know that Covet Fashion can be fun & is safe for teens to play around with styling, but the slew of in-app purchases, designer advertisements and links to purchase clothing and accessory items make the free app a landmine to navigate.

Parents may want to turn off or password protect their child’s ability to make in-app purchases with the Covet Fashion app, or at least set a clothing budget in advance of their child using the app.

The Covet Fashion app provides opportunities for strangers to chat with one another, a feature that should be monitored. Those users looking for a more social experience with the app have the ability to join a Fashion House, or create their own, to chat and share styling tips with other fashionistas.

In order to advance levels or compete in styling challenges, users will need to spend money in the app. The largest complaint is that many of the style challenges include expensive clothing and accessory requirements, and the prize is not equal to the cost of creating the look, which means no reward to the user.

Another common complaint is the change in the virtual models offered by Covet Fashion, for displaying styled looks.

When the app first launched, users were given thin models, but had the choice of their models’ ethnicity. Now all of the models are more “realistic” in size and users are not given an option of body type or skin tone.

Perhaps the biggest user complaint, and one parents should definitely be aware of, is how expensive Covet Fashion becomes to play.

Parents, unless you want your children begging you to let them spend money in the Covet Fashion app - often $10 real dollars for a virtual dress - it’s best to bypass the app altogether.
