What is Camp Pokemon?

Camp Pokémon is a gaming app for younger Pokémon players, between the ages of 6 and 8, designed to introduce players to the Pokémon universe, characters, and game mechanics.

Camp Pokémon is available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store for free.  It is rated for everyone, but this app does contain advertisements.

Players explore a unique island, collecting rewards (pins and stickers) while learning about the Pokémon setting.

The game incorporates diurnal cycles and several new Pokémon from the Sun and Moon games.

Five of the camp Pokémon games are geared directly towards teaching younger users about Pokémon characters and game mechanics:

  • Find the Pokémon – In this game, players search the island for a specific type of Pokémon, using their knowledge of the creature's habits and preferred environments to find it as quickly as possible.
  • Type Matchup – Given a target Pokémon and three options (a Fire, Water, or Grass Pokémon), players have to choose which Pokémon is best to defeat the target.
  • Evolution – Players are shown a basic Pokémon and three possible Evolution states. Points are awarded for matching the Pokémon with its evolved version.
  • Pokémon in Focus – This is a “What's that Pokémon” mini-game, no doubt familiar to fans of the cartoon. Players are shown the shadow outline of a Pokémon and have to guess which character is being displayed.

Four of the mini-games are specific to Camp Pokémon:

  • Pokémon Pins - Pokémon Pins are rewards for completing mini-games and other in-game achievements.
  • Poké Ball Throw – A mini-game where players throw Balls at Pokémon and attempt to 'capture' them.
  • Photo Booth – Using stickers collected through the game, players can create scenes and pictures for sharing with their friends.
  • Mystery Cave – A “daily reward” feature that opens up after a player makes progress within the game, which gives players a mega-evolved Pokémon pin to add to their collection.
