Autorap is an app that instantly transforms your speech into rap songs by using different beats from popular artists. It is free to download from iTunes and Google Play but does offer in-app purchases. Although it is rated as being suitable for all ages, it is best for mature teens.
What is AutoRap by Smule?
With a database of over 100 different beats from popular rappers and artists, Autorap allows users to instantly transform their words into rap songs and autotune freestyle lyrics that they create.
It can be downloaded for free from iTunes and Google Play, but users can make in-app purchases in order to have access to more beats and features.
In addition to creating songs, users can engage in rap battles with other members and discover new rappers through the app. If members like your songs, they can follow your profile as well.
Once you have completed a song and are happy with the outcome, you can share it with your friends through SMS, email, and social media profiles, such as Facebook. New beats are being continuously added to the app in order to increase users’ choices.
After the app has been downloaded, users will be prompted to create an account or login via Facebook. The app requires members to customize a username and select a profile picture.
By clicking the microphone at the bottom of the app, users can browse all of the beats that are available. Once you have selected which beat you want to use, click on it and press “Select”. From there, you will see a screen where you can either choose “Talk” or “Rap” depending on your preference. When you are ready to record, press the red circle.
To edit your account and view all of your previous recordings and rap challenges, click on the profile button in the bottom right of the app. To see highlights from the community and to discover new rappers, select the “Feed” button in the bottom left of the app.
Is AutoRap by Smule safe for my kids?
Although iTunes and Google Play rate Autorap as being safe for all ages, its mature themes make it best for responsible teens that are supervised by adults. However, there is currently no age verification process.
Because users are able to watch other rappers’ videos and listen to their songs, the app may contain mature subjects, such as profanity, suggestive themes, and references to drugs or alcohol. Users are unrestricted with what they record, thus preventing any opportunity for censorship.
Additionally, it is important for parents to know that users can share their songs with the Autorap community, thus allowing people to follow their profile.
This makes it easy for users to come into contact with strangers and presents the possibility of inappropriate interactions and online predators.
It must be noted that users can make in-app purchases while using Autorap. If you do not wish for your child to be able to do this, simply turn off the in-app purchase setting on your child’s device.
While the app does not track users’ locations, it does require the creation of a profile or syncing your Facebook account. This means that the app has access to a large amount of personal information and data, something that parents may not be comfortable with.
