What is Amazon Kindle?

The Amazon Kindle app allows users to turn their phones into an e-reader and brings amazon's ebook libraries to iOS and Android devices. This app can be found for free in both the App Store and the Google Play Store.  The Amazon Kindle app does includes in-app purchases for books and more.

The Amazon Kindle app is a downloadable eBook reader that allows users to read books on their smartphones. The Kindle app is synched with the user’s Amazon library and books already purchased appear automatically.

Readers can change the font size and style to fit their needs, and also adjust screen brightness and screen color for reading comfort day or night. The Amazon Kindle app also includes instant in-page translations and word definitions, so it is easy to look up difficult words or bits of text in foreign languages.

The newsfeed section of the app includes book recommendations, book reviews and ratings from trusted readers, and book discussion for the books users enjoy and cherish. Readers can highlight passages to save for future viewing, and also to share with friends, book clubs, or on discussion pages for a more robust reading experience.

The Kindle app also provides access to eBooks from local libraries. With the Amazon book and magazine library, readers of all ages and interests can find material they will love right at their fingertips, and receive recommendations for continued exploration.  Avid readers may find it beneficial to sign up for an Amazon Prime or Kindle Unlimited membership.

Is Amazon Kindle safe for my kids?

The Amazon Kindle app is safe for kids with parental supervision. The app is mainly a platform to store and read eBooks, and while there are sharing and book discussion features, they are not central to the function of the app.

As with any eBook reading platform, there are certain books that are not suitable for children, and just as parents would monitor what books kids bring home from the library, they should keep an eye on what books they are reading on their Amazon Kindle app.

The discussion feature, where readers can discuss passages and themes in certain book, is provided by a built-in connection to the Goodreads platform, which is a community of readers and reviewers.

Users do not need to use this feature, and would have to create a Goodreads account to do so, allowing parents to a layer of control whether kids have access to the platform or not.

The benefits of the Amazon Kindle app are numerous. To state the obvious, it encourages reading and provides a seemingly infinite range of books, helping kids develop comprehension, vocabulary, a wider foundation of knowledge, and an interest in reading that will stick with them throughout their life.

Also, eBooks are paperless, so users can carry and entire library worth of content on their phone, while also avoiding waste and pollution. The Kindle app provides yet another benefit for kids and adults alike – book recommendations. With recommendations, users can continue to follow their interests and discover great books they may never have stumbled upon without the app.

Reading is a wonderful hobby, and the Amazon Kindle encourages that for people of all ages and interests.
