What is Woozworld?
Woozworld is a gaming app that safely allows children to experience interacting within a virtual world, much like The Sims. Rated for users of all ages, Woozworld is free to download and play but does feature in-app advertisements and purchases.
In the Woozworld app avatars reign supreme and players can customize their looks to express their sense of style and set them apart from other players.
While the Woozworld app touts the app as a place where players use their avatars to show their style, build their character’s story, play dress up, model new styles and take part in weekly quizzes, quests, campaigns, and contests.
Is Woozworld safe for my kids?
According to the developer, “Woozworld is the virtual world for tweens & teens to be safe.”
Parents will be happy to hear that Woozworld is genuinely concerned about children’s online safety and protects them in several ways.
Woozworld has a thorough Code of Conduct that covers everything from creating usernames without including personal identifying information, to how Woozworld players are expected to behave within the game.
Especially comforting are the reporting features Woozworld has built in for users to feel safe while playing the game:
- DO block players that bother you to prevent them from contacting you.
- DO use Woozworld’s report tool if you have a serious problem with another player’s behavior. Our moderation team will review your report and take the necessary steps to suspend or remove the offending player.
- DON'T make false accusations about other players when reporting. Reporting another player is a very serious action and should not be abused.
In addition to requiring users under the age of 13 years to have their parents co-sign their account, Woozworld includes parents in their Code of Conduct and Terms of Service, instructing them: “Parents are advised to exercise supervision over their children’s online activities.”
Parents should also be aware that “Woozworld complies with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the guidelines of the Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the Council of Better Business Bureau, Inc. Being COPPA compliant, Woozworld is certified under the PRIVO-Cert® - PRIVO’s Privacy Assurance Certification.”
Whenever there is a live or open chat area in a game, parents have cause for concern, and it’s always best to review safe online behavior with children before letting them play a game that features live interaction with other players.
Parents should know that the Woozworld app does allow players to chat with one another, send private messages and “friend” each other through the game.
Because socialization is a large part of Woozworld, and because live chats can be problematic and dangerous, Woozworld has an integrated filtering system to help keep the platform safe for children. Per the developer:
The text entered in the WoozIn, as well as in-game chat and in private messages, is filtered through CommunitySift smart filtering system, which aims to prevent, amongst other things, the user from exchanging PII such as phone numbers or email addresses with other users. CommunitySift does not share our user’s information with any other third parties.
Despite the many ways Woozworld tries to maintain a safe platform for children to interact, parents should always monitor their child’s activity in the game.
Because Woozworld features in-app purchases ranging in price from $1.99 to $9.99, parents should also be sure to discuss spending expectations before allowing their child to play.
While players can earn Wooz, the app’s game currency, through regular gameplay, many players opt to purchase Wooz packages to be able to update their clothing, accessories, and hairstyles as they play the game.
This app is safe for older kids and teens with parental supervision.
