The Weather Channel app is available for iOS and Android devices and is rated for users of all ages. This app offers both in-app purchases and advertisements.
With The Weather Channel app, users can get hourly and daily weather forecasts up to two weeks in advance. The National Weather Service also provides severe storm alerts, live radar maps and safety tips via this app.
You can know well in advance of any blizzards expected in your area so that you can plan accordingly and stay inside if you need to. You can even set alerts to be notified of expected inclement weather. Also included in the app are sunrise/sunset time reports if you’re planning an outdoor activity that requires this information.
To maintain good health, cold/flu and allergy reports are also included along with medical advice.
When users first open this app they are immediately able to see the daily forecast for their local area. With one tap, you can then see the hourly forecast or the daily forecast for the next 14 days. If you’re a runner, this app will provide you with the best time on any given day to enjoy an outdoor run.
The ads shown on the opening page were mostly related to keeping warm and healthy (i.e. coffee, cold and flu remedies).

Is The Weather Channel - Radar safe for my kids?
This app is safe for teens and kids with some parental guidance.
Although The Weather Channel provides users with very useful information regarding expected weather conditions in their local areas, the video area can expose young children to graphic news stories, but nothing more offensive than what they would encounter on the local news.
No inappropriate ads were seen on review, third-party ads within the app also present the possibility of children being exposed to mature themes. For a fee, the ads can be removed but there doesn’t appear to be a way to remove the videos mentioned above.
The following themes are relevant to this app: location tracking and mature themes. Within Privacy Settings, location tracking can be disabled, but then the app wouldn’t serve its purpose of providing local weather forecasts.
