What is VERO - True Social?

Vero is a social media sharing app, an alternative to Instagram and Facebook, that allows users to choose who they share posts with. While Vero is currently free to download and use, the app plans to institute a subscription plan sometime in the future, as the platform does not serve advertisements for revenue.

While both the iTunes and Google Play rate the Vero app for ages 17 years of age and older, though the terms of service only require that users be 13 years of age and older to download and use this app.

The Vero app’s push for rollout and building a member base, however, has tested the limits of the social media app. Many users report server timeout errors, in addition to glitches in the platform and the app freezing when attempting to modify individual profiles.

There will likely be additional growing pains as the app continues to grow in popularity.

Is VERO - True Social safe for my kids?

An aspect parents may wish to be aware of is that the Vero app has received backlash for the CEO’s prior business practices. A former company owned by Vero’s CEO, employed migrant workers, living in labor camps with thousands of those migrant workers went unpaid and the company was shut down.

From an ethical standpoint, many parents may not wish for their kids to be using an app associated with unfair treatment of workers.

Vero has been viewed as an appealing alternative to Instagram, since the platform began focusing heavily on ad placement and using weighted algorithms to serve user feeds.

The Vero app, with their emphasis on an ad-free interface, serves posts in chronological order, without applying algorithms to weigh “top” or “important” posts and place at the top of user feeds.

As the app states, Vero is “True Social,” without any other influences.

What parents really want to know is if Vero is safe for kids. The reality is that Vero is about as safe as Instagram or Facebook, with the added bonus of allowing users to categorize friends as the accept requests and add to their profile. Vero’s three categories of friends include: Close Friends, Friends, Acquaintances.

When a user posts or shares an item to their timeline, they have the option of choosing which category of “friends” they wish to share the post with, which is a nice touch.
