What is The Game of Life?
The Game of Life app is a digital version of the popular board game of the same name, that allows users to play on mobile devices.
Rated for players of all ages, The Game of Life costs $2.99 to download and features additional in-app purchases. The Game of Life app can be downloaded in both the App Store and the Google Play Store.
Rated number one in Board games in the App Store, The Game of Life takes a perennial favorite board game and packages it into a digital edition for players to enjoy on mobile devices.
The game takes players through real life scenarios, from choosing college and a career, to getting married, having children, buying a home and paying taxes. Moving along the board players wind their way through times of great fortune and times of bad luck, all the while being offered choices to take their paths in different directions for unique outcomes.
In the end, the winner is the person who has managed to amass the most wealth by retirement. The Game of Life is capitalism at its finest, but also teaches young children about bills, familial responsibilities and the impact major decisions can have on one’s financial life.
When players begin The Game of Life, they’ll be prompted to enter their age, those players ages 13 years and older will be prompted to connect the app to their Facebook account.
Players then select a game type from the following: Solo, Pass ‘n’ Play, and Party Mode. Once game mode is selected, users choose the color of their car, choose a player avatar, and the option to choose how many players they wish they wish to play against (in Solo games, other players will be run by AI).
While The Game of Life app provides opportunities to play with friends, as well as being matched to play with strangers, there is no way for players to interact or exchange personal information as the chat feature within the app only allows players to post emoticons.
Once players begin, the screen will prompt them to spin or tap to select when offered choices such as career or college and what type of starter home they wish to purchase.
After spinning, players view their journey across the board in first person, which looks almost 3D in perspective. No need to handle a bank in The Game of Life app, as payouts and payments due are automatically taken by the game.
Is The Game of Life safe for my kids?
In-app purchases come in the form of texture packs, in which players can pay $3.99 to change the theme of their digital playing board to one of the following: Winter Wonderland, Halloween, Birthday Party, Enchanted Valley, Spring Blossom, Wild Safari, and Summer Beach Party.
For a one-time purchase of $19.99, players have the option of buying a Season Pass, which unlocks all of the different board themes for them to choose from for game play.
While The Game of Life app is rated for players of all ages, parents should know that the board game version, which the digital mobile version follows closely, is rated for players ages 9 years and older. The Game of Life may be a little boring or too involved for younger children.
With The Game of Life app, the only thing parents need to keep an eye out for are in-app purchases and the fact that players over 13 can access Facebook through the app. This app is safe for kids.
