What is Slack?

The Slack app is a business communication tool that streamlines team communication and collaboration. Slack is highly customizable and seamlessly integrates other office organization tools.

Slack is free to use and is rated for users of all ages.  This app can be found in the App Store and the Google Play Store and does not feature any advertisements or in-app purchases.

It’s important to note that while Slack is listed as a free app, free plans are considered the Basic plan and have limitations. To get the most out of the Slack app, businesses will want to invest in a subscription plan, choosing either the Standard ($8 per month plus $6.67 per person) or Plus plan ($15 per month plus $12.50 per person).

Slack’s Basic or free plan is designed for businesses to test out the service but can be used efficiently by smaller firms.

The Basic plan includes unlimited private and public channels. Channels are the Slack app’s basic organization system, which can be labeled by project, topic, team or group. Slack’s Basic plan caps the number of searchable messages in the system, maxing out at searching 10,000 indexed messages. Slack’s Basic plan also limits the number of outside apps that can be integrated into the system to 10.

However, Basic plan users still have access to 1:1 voice and video calls, which allows them to quickly switch from texting to call with the tap of a finger. Public files are stored in one, easily accessible area for team members to consult at any time and users can customize their notification settings to receive updates to pressing or essential team conversations.

Slack’s paid subscription plans include the finer points of the Basic plan without the limits and offer additional features for even greater team organization and ease of use.

Standard plan users will enjoy the added benefits of group calls and screen sharing with up to 15 other team members, Google password authentication for greater security and ease of login and guest access to the app by sending invitation links to one or more channels for collaboration.

Finally, Slack’s Plus plan subscribers enjoy all of the benefits the Basic and Standard plans offer, as well as higher level security, businesses can integrate Slack with their existing SAML 2.0 identity provider to ensure secure access to their team.

Slack also offers Plus subscribers a 99.9 percent uptime guarantee with a financially backed service level agreement and guaranteed customer support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Is Slack safe for my kids?

With the Slack app, business owners and managers can easily communicate with team members wherever they are, as well as access important account information on-the-go.

File sharing, graphics and video-sharing makes it easy for team members to access critical information in real-time, without having to wait for an email response for materials.

The Slack app provides business owners and managers with a streamlined organizational and collaborative office tool, with the ability for users to access conversations and materials anytime and anywhere.

The Slack app and software is specifically made for work place communication.  And while it is possible for kids and non-slack users to create accounts and communicate, it is very difficult and unlikely to happen.

This app is safe for kids, however it is unlikely that kids would ever need to utilize this app.
