Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys is for players 18 years and older, is free to download and play, but does feature in-app purchases and advertisements.

Based upon the popular Rick and Morty cartoon, in which mad scientist Rick brings his 14 year old grandson along on a series of inter-dimensional misadventures, Pocket Mortys is definitely a game for fans.

Loosely based upon an episode of the cartoon where Rick and Morty meet versions of themselves from different dimensions, Pocket Mortys sends players on a mission to collect inter-dimensional Mortys that have been separated from their Ricks.

Pocket Mortys players proceed throughout the game, collecting various iterations of the Morty character; Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys features more than 150 different Mortys to collect.

Attacks in the Pocket Mortys game cost players action points, which they will need to replenish at some point -- this is where in-app purchases come into play in the game. Coupons are the game currency in Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys, and can be bought in packages ranging in price from $0.99 to $99.99.

Is Uber Eats: Food Delivery safe for my kids?

Parents should know that the Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys app is a gaming app, based upon the adult cartoon, Rick and Morty.

While the App Store rates Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys for ages 17+, and the Google Play store rates the app for everyone, terms and services states that players must be ages 18 years of age and older to download and play the app.  This app is not safe for kids.

And while this is likely a catchall move because Adult Swim shows and products are meant for adults, parents should be aware that children may encounter profanity and/or crude humor, cartoon violence and mature/suggestive themes.

It’s worth noting that Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys is very similar to Pokemon, substituting the Rick and Morty characters for Pikachu and other variants of Pokemon’s collectible characters. And like Pokemon, each Morty character is assigned a rock, paper, scissors type, with different strengths and weaknesses.

Morty variation characteristics are important, and players will use their collected Mortys to do battle (just like Pokemon).

Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys is created for fans of the cartoon, and many players following along with the text may not entirely understand the jokes and humor throughout the game and in the dialogue, if they’re not already familiar with the Rick and Morty characters.

However, players do not need to be fans to understand how play Rick and Morty.

Is there really anything for parents to worry about with the Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys app? Not especially, but most kids looking for a Pokemon-type game will be just as happy with the original, especially if they’re not already fans of the Rick and Morty cartoon on Adult Swim.
