What is PlayStation Messages?

PlayStation Messages is a messaging app that connects to PlayStation account so that users can contact their friends anytime.

The PlayStation Messages app can be found in the App Store and the Google Play Store and is rated for users 12 years of age and older. This free app does not feature any additional in-app purchases or advertisements.

Users should know that this is not a gaming app, it is solely an app for PlayStation gamers to stay in touch with the friends they have made while playing.

When users first download this app they will be asked to sign in to their account. Users will need to already have a PlayStation Network account to use this app and the app provides no option to create an account from it.

Users will be able to see who is online and if they are playing a game and quickly access their groups by adding them to their favorites. This messaging apps allows users to send text and voice messages, but is not created with phone call capabilities. With PlayStation messages, users can also send stickers and photos to their friends.

Rated with about 3.5 stars in each app store, many users have some common complaints. Many complain that they get error messages all the time while trying to use this app and that many of the features just don’t work sometimes.

Is PlayStation Messages safe for my kids?

The Playstation Messages app is safe for teens and is no more dangerous than other chat or messaging apps that they are likely using. There are no in-app purchases so parents will not need to worry about their children making excessive purchases.

Obviously there are messaging features and parents will likely be interested in who their children are having conversations with. Friends and other users on this app are native to PlayStation 4 consoles and this is where users will be finding new friends.

This app also has the option for photo sharing so parents may want to have a conversation with their children about expectations and appropriate sharing of photos while using this app.
