While advertised as a free app, users will find it difficult to explore the full functionality of Photable without making additional in-app purchases. And those users hoping for a Photoshop-type experience will be disappointed.
Most of the features within the app require a Plus membership, which will run users $5.99 per month, $35.99 per year, or a one-time purchase of $69.99. Users may opt to try the “Free” option to explore what the app has to offer, which is merely a 3-day free trial, after which they will be billed; subscriptions auto renew. Compared to other photo editing apps on the market, Photable is not worth the subscription price.
Once users download and open the Photable app, they begin at a homepage with three photo editing options: retouch, collage, and design. Parents should know that users must allow the app access to their photos in order to work within Photable.
With the retouch option, users can add tattoos to their photos, however, only a limited selection of these are available for free. The only retouch options for altering the body in a photo are adding musculature, with a single ab option for women and multiple options for men looking to transform their photos into bodybuilder portraits. It’s important to note that none of the muscle-adding features are available without a subscription.
Eye color, some hairstyles, and a few accessories are available for free as stickers in the retouch area, but the more intricate, involved and fun accessorizing features require a subscription to access. Users may apply Instagram-type filters to their photos at no charge, in addition to adding text, under the retouch menu.
Collage layouts are fun in the Photable app, with the option of adding up to 16 photos to a gallery from which to create a collage. Once a collage format is chosen, users may choose from a range of aspect ratios, and then tap to download. The collage format is available for free in the Photable app, however, those user who wish to download their photo collage without the app watermark must have a paid subscription to do so.
