Periscope is a social media app that allows users to livestream videos and share them with members throughout the world.

Periscope can be downloaded for free from both the App Store and the Google Play Store and offers the choice of in-app purchases. This app is rated for users 17 years of age and older.

With Periscope, users can both watch and create videos related to a variety of subjects, including news, traveling, and individual members and their interests. To find videos you would like to watch, you can browse by popularity, location, and subject.

Additionally, if you miss out on a live video that you would have liked to watch, you can simply rewatch the video’s highlights in the app.

If you watch a video that you would like to say something about, you can add comments and hearts while it is being broadcasted.

When creating a live video, users have two main options: to share the video with the entire Periscope community, or to send it directly to specific members or friends.

The app also allows members to share their live videos with other popular social media networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. A new feature even makes it possible for users to record in the audio-only mode.

While the app still remains popular amongst users, some individuals have complained that recent updates have caused the streaming to be slow.

Is Periscope - Live Video safe for my kids?

Due to its mature nature and many interactive features, Periscope is not safe for kids. However, the minimum age for downloading and using the app is currently 13.

Parents should know that there are very few restrictions on what types of content can be posted within the app, thus leaving open the possibility of users coming into contact with inappropriate themes that are related to sex, nudity, violence, alcohol, and drugs.

These are not appropriate for children and should be treated as such.

Additionally, because Periscope allows users to direct message each other, comment on other user’s videos, and livestream videos directly to specific members, there is a great risk of a child coming into contact with an Internet predator, particularly one that is substantially older.

There are no restrictions on what these interactions can pertain to, thus leaving open the possibility of them becoming inappropriate.

Finally, some parents may not be comfortable with the fact that the app allows in-app purchases. If this is the case, simply prevent your child from using the app altogether, or disable in-app purchases in their phone’s settings.
