Peak Brain Training is an app developed by neuroscience and cognitive experts to help users keep their brains fine-tuned and focused for high performance.
With over 40 games designed specifically for skills such as attention, memory, problem solving, language, emotional control, and more, users can exercise their brain. Each game is created by an expert team for a specific training function.
Upon download, the game will ask for some information, including level of education and skills the trainee wants to improve, and then Peak’s personal trainer, Coach, will help users pick the right workout while also keeping in-depth track of their progress as they complete the games.
The app has been featured in a number of major publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Wired, and others. In 2014, Peak Brain Training was named one of the App Store Best, and one the Best App of September of that year.
Users can connect their account to Facebook to compare results with friends and family.
The app is free to download and use, but functionality is limited without a subscription to Peak Pro, which is $4.99 per month for a monthly subscription, or $34.99 for a 12 month subscription. Peak Pro gives subscribers access to personalized workouts and all games in the app, among other benefits.

Now, as the name of the app suggests, Peak is meant to be used as a trainer, not a toy, so it might be best to wait for kids to reach a level of maturity in which they can appreciate the benefits of mental training before starting them out with Peak.

Because of the limited scope of the free version of Peak Brain Training, in which users are unable to replay games each day and have access to about half of the games, kids using the app may be tempted to buy the subscription, and parents should talk to kids about the ground rules for making purchases without permission.
While it is hard to say if these games necessarily make users more intelligent, they certainly help keep the mind fresh and nimble, while also showing where one might have weaknesses or strengths of their mind, which is valuable information.
