What is LiveMe – Live Stream & Go Live?
Live.me is a social networking and live streaming app that allows users to share live broadcasts, browse through other member’s videos, send and receive gifts, and meet new friends, including influencers and celebrities.
It is available for free download from iTunes and Google Play and offers the choice of in-app purchases. Due to its many interactive features and potential mature themes, it is not suitable for children, and should only be used by adults aged 18 or older.
Similar to the app YouNow, once the app is downloaded and you have successfully made your profile, you can then begin live broadcasting a video. Many members use this feature in order to post makeup tutorials, gaming videos, live music, and product reviews.
To connect with other users on the app, simply scroll through the different broadcasts that have been recently posted. If you find a video that you particularly like, you can either post a comment, send the broadcaster a virtual gift, or private message them directly.
A feature of this app that makes it popular is the ability for users to earn money through their broadcasts. Members can send each other virtual gifts that can then be converted into money, meaning that popular videos have the opportunity to be very profitable. In-app purchases range from $0.99-$99.99 and can be made in order to purchase coins and send them to other members.
While the app generally receives positive reviews, some users have stated that there is a glitch when they try to replay broadcasts.
Is LiveMe – Live Stream & Go Live safe for my kids?
Due to its many interactive features and the possibility of mature themes, Live.me is not safe for children and should only be used by adults aged 18 or older. Because of this fact, the app requires that all users be 17+.
Parents should know that there are very few restrictions put in place to monitor the content of the live videos that are posted. This means that broadcasts may very well contain mature themes that are not appropriate for children, such as references to drugs and alcohol, crude humor, suggestive topics, and violence.
Additionally, the purpose of the app is to connect strangers, thus creating the possibility of children coming into contact with Internet predators. Users are able to have private chats with other members, meaning that there is also the risk of individuals having inappropriate conversations with others.
It must be noted that a large component of Live.me is in-app purchases, as users are encouraged to send each other gifts and purchase upgrades. Many parents may not be comfortable with their child being able to make these purchases, so if this is the case, simply prevent your child from using the app altogether.
Finally, the app requires substantial amounts of personal information from users, such as their location, access to their phone’s camera, and access to their phone’s data. It is common for parents to not be okay with an app developer having this much access to their child’s data.
