What is Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue?

Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue is a virtual reality (VR) game in which players fly through colorful worlds, avoiding enemies and collecting power-ups to try to explore further.  Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue can be found only in the App Store for $0.99 and is rated for users nine years of age and older.

Kids can enter the world of a firefly in Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue. Gameplay for this game is simple, players steer their character by turning their head to avoid enemies and obstacles, and to collect power-ups to help them survive.

Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue is a runner style game, like Temple Run, but in an immersive 3D VR world. Players can unlock 5 different firefly characters to explore with which they can explore the different worlds, including fiery caverns and deep green woods.

Each character has a unique flying styles and character voices. The game is rated for users 9+ for infrequent and mild cartoon violence, but most VR headsets recommend that kids under 12 do not use VR headsets in the first place.

Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue works on all major Cardboard headsets.

Unfortunately, user reviews are generally very poor, with the app receiving an average of 1.7 out of 5 in the iTunes review section. Reviewers complain that the game feels buggy and unfinished.

Is Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue safe for my kids?

Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue is safe for kids old enough to use a VR headset. The age restriction for VR headsets varies for different models, but most recommend that children under 12 do not use a headset, as it can cause disorientation and eye damage.

For any kids older than that, this game is safe. There is mild cartoon violence when the player cannot escape the enemy or when the defeat the enemy, but it is nothing gruesome or alarming in the slightest.

As with any game, there is the danger of addiction and overplaying, and with a VR game, being immersed in another world can have a powerful multiplier effect on those two issues.

Most manufacturers recommend taking a 10 minute break every hour spent using a VR headset, and parents should try to enforce this rule, as it prevents eye damage and disorientation.

Parents should also set ground rules about how much time kids will have to play video games, and whether other activities, like homework or studying, will come first.

Lamper VR: Firefly Rescue offers the benefit of entertainment, but little outside of this.
